Riley Creek UMC host soup, sandwich and game night on Feb. 20

Riley Creek United Methodist Church invites the all ages to a "Soup, Sandwich & Game Night" on Thursday, Feb. 20, at 6 p.m. From 6 to 7 p.m. there will be several soup flavors to choose from and a hearty sandwich to fill in the gaps. Family-friendly games will be played until 9 p.m. Bring a favorite board game to play or join in a round or two of the many that will be on hand. 

The evening's events will take place in the church's newly completed building addition.  The addition includes restrooms, a kitchenette and a fellowship hall.

Sheriff issues Level 1 roadway advisory

At 8:59 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 12, the Allen County Sheriff has issued a Level 1 roadway advisory: Roadways are snow or ice covered with possible drifting.

Two public hearings set for March 9

Parkview Phase 2 and zoning changes on Jefferson Street

Two public hearings are slated on Monday, March 9, during  that evening’s Bluffton council meeting, according to Jesse Blackburn, village administrator.

The hearing announcements were made at Monday’s council meeting.

At 7:15 p.m. on March 9 is a hearing to review engineered plans approved by the Planning Commission for future construction on Phase 2 of the Parkview Subdivision from 3S Development.

Elementary school family science night Feb. 21

Memory books on sale until Thursday

February is a short month, but lots of activities take place in the Bluffton elementary school. Here is a summary of those activities from the February elementary newsletter.

• Bluffton Elementary PTO will sponsor “Family Science Night” Friday, Feb. 21, from 6-8 p.m. in the elementary gym and middle school cafetorium. 

• Elementary Memory Books for 2019-2020 school are on sale until Feb. 13. You can directly order online at ybpay.lifetouch.com.

Pirate matmen sweep tri-match

Bluffton defeats Kenton 45-18 and Grove 48-36

BLUFFTON - The Bluffton wrestling team swept visiting Kenton and Columbus Grove handily in a three-team dual meet Tuesday evening.

The host Pirates whipped Kenton 45-18 and handled Grove 48-36 to win the event. CG also beat Kenton 46-24 in the third dual match.

Bluffton's Thayne Kleman (106) won at 1:55 by pin, and Tayton Kleman also triumphed via pin at 113 lbs. vs. the Wildcats. Landen Luginbihl also won by a 4-1 decision at 220 lbs.

Pirate girls jousted by Black Knights in low-scoring game

VAN BUREN - Visiting Bluffton lost 40-29 to Van Buren in a low-scoring non-conference girls basketball contest Tuesday night.

Bluffton trailed just 9-8 after one period, but VB doubled them up by halftime, 22-11. The teams battled evenly 18-18 after
intermission. 

The loss dropped the Lady Pirate record to 14-7 overall,  while VB improved to 12-9 with the win.

Bluffton junior Layin Garmatter led the Pirates with eight points and two trifectas. Senior Kayla White netted seven markers, and sophomore Kylie Monday added six.
