BFR offers lots of free Keeping Active activities

The second week of Keeping Active programs will begin on Jan. 27 at BFR Sports and Fitness.

Four more weeks of free events, demonstrations, and fitness options will be included. Individuals as well as families are encouraged to learn more about healthy eating and add more activity to their routines.

The Keeping Active program offers something for everyone:
• free days to use the indoor track,
• free family and youth activities
• as well as fitness classes for adults of all fitness levels,

Most of the activities will be held at the BFR facility located at 215 Snider Road, Bluffton. A full schedule of activities is available at the building, from area business locations as well as on the web site www.bfronline.com.

Free upcoming activities will include free walking on Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Thursday during all building hours, as well as free classes and nutritional information. Fitness related free programs will include a 45 minute demonstration of balance and stretching exercises (Monday, Jan. 27 at 10 AM), a free session of All Star Workout (Wednesday, Jan. 29 at 8:30AM), and a free session of Strength & Flexibility (Thursday, Jan. 30 at 10 AM).

Nutritional information will be provided by graduate students in Dietetics (Bluffton University) on Tuesday, Jan. 28 (10:30 AM) and Friday, Jan. 31 (10:30 AM).  The Tuesday program will focus on Decreasing Salt Intake and Friday’s program will give parents hints toward kid friendly, healthy eating. The nutritional sessions will very informal and participants are encouraged to bring their questions.

Chances to be active at BFR will include Winter Olympic Games for adults, free play for Middle and High school soccer players (Wednesday, Jan. 29, 3:30-5:30 PM) and free open play for pre-schoolers and caregivers on Friday, Jan. 31 (10:30 AM-noon). Families are invited for open recreation in the gymnasium on Saturday, February 1 from 7-9PM.

The Winter Olympic Games is a chance for area adults to participate in three fun tournaments on Tuesday nights (Jan. 28, Feb. 11, and Feb. 25).  This is a team event requiring 6 adults (at least 2 must be female).  Events will be held from 7-9PM in the BFR gymnasium; Cornhole, Dodgeball and 3v3 Basketball respectively.  The Olympic competition does have a fee of $60 per team. Registration is required before the first event.

Families are still encouraged to become more active, and eat healthy with the Presidential Active Lifestyle Award challenge.  Registration for the PALA+ program is Free for families and may result in an award at the end of the six weeks.
