It's happening in July at the Bluffton Public Library

The Blufton Public Library has a busy July schedule. Here's what's what happening:

The library will be closed for Independence Day on July 4th and 5th.  Due dates will be adjusted accordingly. 

Tutor Me Paperless— basic, one-on-one Tech/Computer classes—will return for Wednesdays in August.  Register by phone or in person for this service and specify what mode or feature of technology that you would like to discuss. 

Storytime (Ages 3 to 5): Visit Storytime on Mondays at 6:30 p.m. or Tuesdays at 10:00 a.m. (Starting July 7th)

Monday Movie Madness begins again July 7th with the movie “Up!”  Every Monday of July, the library will feature a Fizz, Boom, Read-themed movie at 1 p.m.  Families and those of all ages are welcome to enjoy a free movie, popcorn, and beverages on the lower level of the library.

Jammin’ @ the Library returns July 8th and Jul 17th at 6 p.m.  This is an informal time for acoustic musicians to gather and share their love of music.

On July 9th, the library will feature R U CURIOUS???, a food science program for grades K-5.  Registration is required.

Private Medicaid/Marketplace Assistance counseling returns July 9th and 23rd.  Call or stop in to register for a time slot with a certified Navigator who can answer your questions and/or guide you through the application process.

Jr. Brain Builders—“Senses” (Ages 1-3):  On July10th at 10:30 a.m., this event will return.  This program encourages the development of fine and gross motor skills. 

On July 10th at 6:30 p.m., the library will host an informative program on how to make your own Cultured Vegetables using probiotics and lacto-fermentation, including sauerkraut, real pickles, dilly beans, dilly carrots, kimchi and more.  Free samples will be available to try at the program. Registration is required.

On July 12th, come Paws to Read with Tango, certified-therapy-dog friend.  Children and children-at-heart are welcome to read to Tango or simply visit with her starting at 11 a.m.

Can You Outread a Librarian?: the #OutreadALibrarian challenge continues!  Participants may upload their scariest reading face on Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter using the hash tag.  Teens are in the lead with 5,877 pages read, while library staff members have reached 4,252 pages (and counting!) 

Artitude! (grades 6-11) meets at 2 p.m. on July 11th and 18th.  This event is a part of the #SparkAReaction teen program and encourages the artist in you!  Please register by phone or at the front desk.

At 10 a.m. on July 15th, Allen County Park Naturalist Beth Theisen will lead a Water Program for grades K-5.  Registration is required.

The library’s popular LEGO group Brain Builders will meet again July 16th.  This installment is entitled “Robots!”  Please note that the 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. sessions are now full, but registration is still open for the 3 p.m. session.    

On July 17 at 6:30 p.m., the library will be hosting What's Up with the Water?, presented by Phil Martin of the Blanchard River Watershed Project.  He will cover what affects our local water quality, why we should care, and what we can do about it, as well as covering the question of "What is a Watershed?"  Please register at the library.

At 5:30 pm on both July 22nd and 29th, the library will partner with award-winning Instructional Technology Coach Chris Gott to offer technology classes.  The July 22nd meeting is titled, “I’ve got iPads in my classroom.  Now what?” and on July 29th Chris will present, “My school offers Moodle.  What can I do with it?”  The library expects these classes to fill up quickly, so register today!

On July 23rd at 11 a.m., the library will host It’s Alive! an event bout crazy animal facts and creating animal art, for grades K-5.  Meet staff on the lower level of the library and don’t forget to register!

Meet the Author: John Becker: For this family-centered program, participants will meet with the author of Frenemies for Life on July 24th at 11 a.m.  This is the final event of the summer reading program!  

On July 28th the Gluten Free/Allergy Support Group will meet at 6 p.m.  Anyone is welcome to stop by and join the conversation.

The last day to report reading minutes and submit your prize entries is July 26th.  Winners will be notified the following week!
