Isaac Andreas has 2 pieces in Governor's youth art exhibit

Bluffton High School artist, Isaac Andreas, is recognized this spring for his artistic abilities, according to Vickie Garmon, BHS art teacher.

Andreas, a junior, has two art pieces accepted for inclusion among 300 selected works in this year’s Ohio Governor’s Youth Art Exhibition. This year 11,500 pieces were entered in the competition.

Trinity Lutheran Church, Jenera, hosts a Red Cross blood drive on Saturday, April 2, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran School gym located at 105 Allen Street, Jenera, according to Christine Sterling.

Spring ILR: Monday movies, animal kingdom, prose, poetry, Powerpoint and more

Bluffton University’s Institute for Learning in Retirement (ILR), an educational program for retirees, is offering multiple courses on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays this spring, beginning April 4.

The tuition for the full spring term is $100; individual class costs can be requested from the ILR director. Most classes will meet in the ILR classroom, located in Hirschler Hall of Riley Court on campus.

Several contracts on Monday's board agenda

Bluffton school board will act on several contracts and one resignation at its Monday meeting.

Contracts will be offered to:
• Bethany Ackerman, substitute secretary
• Noah Altenburger, substitute teacher
Supplemental contracts:
• Jose Moser, high school track coordinator
• Nathan Little, high school track assistant
• Jeffery Richards, high school track assistant
• Jon Sprague, volunteer boys' tennis

Darlyn Rae "Darly" Sommers was retired from nursing at Bluffton Hospital

Darlyn Rae "Darly" Sommers, 84, of Bluffton, died March 20, 2016, at Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton. 

Darlyn was born May 1, 1931, in Allen County Ohio to Calvin and Huldah (Badertscher) Garmatter who preceded her in death. On March 14, 1953, Darlyn married Dean Robert Sommers at the Ebenezer Mennonite Church. They were married over 63 years. Dean survives Darlyn in Bluffton.
