March sports contests now listed on Icon sports calendar

Here's certain sign of spring: spring sports.

The Icon is now posting Bluffton High School and Bluffton University spring sports events scheduled in March.

To access the sports calendar, place your cursor over "calendar," and "sports calendar" will drop down. Click on it and it will take you to the sports calendar.
Please be patient: We are still working on April and May.

Lunch Specials for March 9-11:

Here are lunch specials from March 9 to 11 at Jeanne's Kitchen.

On Friday, March 11, is a "tribute to spring." The dinner includes appetizers, strawberry salad, oven-fried chicken or fresh fish, Karen's homemade potato salad, root vegetables and homemade dessert.

Dinner hours are 5 to 7 p.m. Reservations are apprecitated. Call 419-234-8650.

University student art showcased at 49th annual show

The Bluffton University art department will present its 49th annual Juried Student Exhibition from March 21-April 1 in the Grace Albrecht Gallery in Sauder Visual Arts Center.

The exhibition, which is free and open to the public, will showcase work created this academic year by students in university art classes or supervised independent studies.

Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and 1-5 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.

Apollo Career Center showcase event April 14

Apollo Career Center will hold its fourth annual Apollopalooza on Thursday, April 14, 5:30-7 p.m.

It's tennis season, and what a different a year makes!

Here's Mike Hilty, Bluffton High School boys' tennis coach, shoveling snow last March, in anticipation of the 2015 tennis season.

Yes, what a different a year makes. One year later, (below) here's Misha Groman practicing a serve as a warm up for the 2016 tennis season.

Temperatures were in the high 60s when this photo was taken. Last year we didn't check the temperature when the snow shoveling photo was taken, but it was at least a 35 degree difference.

Bluffton resident on March 10 Findlay immigration panel discussion

Miev Chan of Bluffton is one of the panelists in a Findlay-Hancock County Public Library program on immigration taking place this week.

The Findlay-Hancock County Public Library, in coordination with Findlay/Hancock County Welcoming Community Initiative, will hold a panel discussion highlighting “Unknown Local Stories of Immigration” from 6-7 p.m. Thursday, March 10 at Glenwood Middle School, Findlay.

The event will provide a local perspective on immigration through the eyes of area residents who are immigrants from Cambodia, Philippines, Mexico and Germany.
