Local students participating in Bluffton cross-cultural experiences

Taylor Steele of Bluffton is participating in a cross-cultural experience in Great Britain, May 6-25.

He and other Bluffton students—most of them members of Bluffton’s Camerata Singers—are exploring various faith communities in Scotland and England. Many of these communities are countercultural, but others connect very directly to the prevailing society. At times, students will be joining other choirs and musicians in singing, as well as visiting historic sites in London.

Steele, the son of Steve and Tracy Steele, is a junior studying chemistry and public health. He is a 2012 graduate of Bluffton High School.

Jacob Headings of Bluffton is participating in a cross-cultural experience in Haiti, May 12-30.

He and other Bluffton students are working with two organizations while in Haiti: Mission Possible and Mennonite Central Committee. These organizations will show what is being done to meet physical, spiritual, emotional, educational and social needs of the Haitian people. Scattered throughout the trip are service projects, exploration of villages and cities, Haitian cuisine and worship.

Headings, son of Ron and Linda Headings, is a junior majoring in mathematics. He is a 2012 graduate of Archbishop McNicholas High School in Cincinnati.

This experience will fulfill Bluffton’s undergraduate cross-cultural requirement that must be completed before graduation. Students can either complete a cross-cultural experience or take six credit hours in one foreign language.
