Library announces its April 2016 programs and services

Please notice: the library will close on Friday, April 15 for staff development. Due dates are adjusted accordingly.

Playgroup, a program for infants, babies, and toddlers, will return on April 1, 8, 22, and 29 at 10 a.m.  Make a play date and the library will provide the space and toys!  (Registration is not required for this month’s Playgroup sessions.)

Paws 2 Read! continues in April on the 2nd and 16th, both at 10 a.m. Teddy loves hearing stories or just getting a friendly cuddle. This program supports literacy, the humane treatment of animals, and healthy stress relief practices.

Spring Storytime (ages 3-5) continues this month on Mondays at 6:30 p.m. or Tuesdays at 10 a.m. (Registration is required and spots are full.  Please call to place your child on our waiting list.)

Dulcimers @ the Library continues on Tuesdays at 1:30 p.m., and Jammin’ @ the Library continues in April on the 11th and 25th at 6 p.m. Come to any meeting to join or listen.

Chill Zone continues every Tuesday in April at 3:30 p.m. This is a time for teens and tweens (6th grade and up) to snack, talk, play games, watch movies, and make crafts.

The Gardeners of the Bluffton/Pandora Area will meet at the library April 5 at 6:30 p.m. on the lower level. Come to any meeting to join or listen.

Need help with a new tablet or laptop?  Not sure how to check out free eBooks through our library?  Register for a Tutor Me Paperless session by calling 419-358-5016, or emailing [email protected]. Tutor Me Paperless is a basic technology tutoring service Bluffton Public Library offers every other month on Wednesdays by appointment. Please specify what program or device you need assistance with when registering.

This month’s Noon Book Discussion of Jim Fergus’ One Thousand White Women is on April 6. (Registration is required). Not registered yet, but want to be a part of our discussion of Daniel J. Brown’s Boys in a Boat in May?  Email asc@blufftonpubliclibrary or register at our front desk or by phone.

YogaFit(c) by BFR continues every Wednesday on the library’s lower level at 6:30pm.  To register and pay the membership fee, contact Bluffton Family Recreation.   

The library’s Sci-Fi/Fantasy Writer’s Group continues April 7 at 6 p.m. If you are working on writing in this genre, or are seriously interested in doing so, you are invited to join this group!  Registration is required and space is limited.  Email [email protected] for more information.

National Library Week is April 11-16! Come check out a display celebrating community involvement at the library (you might see yourself in a picture!), write a comment on our interactive “Why I love my library” board or snag a librarian’s favorite from our recommended shelf!

Artist Jeanne Beutler will be leading another Watercolor Workshop on April 18 at 5:30 p.m.  Each participant will create their own painting and receive a mat frame with which to finish it.  Registration for this program is required by April 12.  Program cost is $10, payable at the door. Cash only please.

Brain Builders continues April 14 and 28 at 4 p.m. Please register at the library in advance for this program. For more information, email [email protected]. Brain Builders provides opportunities for problem solving and imaginative construction. This program is for children in K-5th grade.

The Teen Volunteers will have a meeting on April 20 at 4 p.m. Contact [email protected] for more information.

Celebrate Earth Day at Bluffton Public Library. On April 21 at 6 p.m., come listen to "Earth Day Music" with One in a Number: The Bluffton Women's Choir on the library’s main floor. Then, on April 23 at 10:30 a.m., come to Green Building Techniques.  During this talk, Andy Chappell-Dick of Small House Bluffton will give a brief presentation on his experience with energy efficient and sustainable building concepts. Afterwards, there will be a Q&A session, and others who have worked with green ideas into their homes are welcome to share as well! (Registration is required for the April 23 program.)

The Gluten Free and  Food Allergy Support Group will meet on the library’s lower level on April 25 at 6 p.m.  Come to any meeting to join or listen.

The library’s annual Friends of the Library Spring Tea is on April 28 at 5:45 p.m.  Carlin Carpenter, former Bluffton University football coach and recent author will speak, and a full tea service will be provided.  Tickets are $12.00 and may be purchased at the library’s front desk.  Proceeds go to benefit library programs, materials, and services.
