Ohio Auditor Keith Faber speaks at Bluffton

Keynote speaker of high school business competition

High school students are invited to compete for $6,000 in scholarships and prizes during the Bluffton University Business Competition on Tuesday, Oct. 22.

During the 9:30 a.m.-2 p.m. event, students will interact with business majors and professors, explore future career paths in business and hear from Ohio Auditor of State Keith Faber, who is serving as the keynote speaker. During the competition portion of the day, students will respond to a business case that will encourage them to think of the many aspects of contemporary business issues.

Tickets on sale for Kiwanis spaghetti dinner

This year’s event is Oct. 24

FROM ADA ICON - The Ada Kiwanis Club will hold its annual spaghetti dinner fundraiser from 4:30 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 24, at the Ada High School cafeteria, 725 West North Ave.

Club members will serve Peter Previte's homemade spaghetti, salad, bread sticks and drinks. 

One may eat-in or carry-out.

Advance sale tickets are $7 each, with children under 10 free. Tickets at the door will be $8. Advance sale tickets are available at the following locations in Ada:

$45,000 police cruiser expected in 2020

Leaf pick up will begin this week

Bluffton council will consider a request for a new $45,000 village police cruiser at the Monday, Oct. 14, council meeting. The council’s finance and safety committee, meeting Oct. 9, reviewed the police department request for the expenditure.

The village follows a 10-year capital budget plan for the police equipment. A 2020 cruiser is part of that 10-year budget. Several additional budget items were reviewed on Oct. 9. Those items will be discussed this evening.

Pumping the hydrant dry

Jan Basinger, village service employee, spent most of last week flushing Bluffton's 290 fire hydrants. The village conducts this in the spring and fall. It is a check on the condition of the hydrants and water helps alleviate corrosion in the water pipes.

BVHS announces clinic collaboration with Mayo Clinic Care Network

The new relationship extends to medical professionals at the Bluffton Hospital

Blanchard Valley Health System has announced that it is the first Ohio-based health care facility to join a clinic collaboration with the Mayo Clinic Care Network, of Rochester, Minnesota.

The Mayo relationship extends to medical professionals at the  Bluffton Hospital.

In making the announcement on Oct. 10, Scott Malaney, BVHS president and CEO, said, “This is a big day for us.”

Nygaard 7th, Conley 13th at NWC meet

The young Pirates have no seniors, and seven of their top nine at the NWC meet were freshmen or sophomores

VAN WERT - The Bluffton boys cross country team finished fourth in the seven-team Northwest Conference championship meet at the Van Wert Reservoir Saturday morning.

Columbus Grove defended its boys team title with just 23 points. Lincolnview was second (45), followed by Crestview (86), Bluffton (105), Allen East (133), Paulding (143) and Ada (211).

Freshman Erik Nygaard posted the top Pirate showing, finishing a strong seventh out of 95 runners in 18:08. Junior Elijah Conley crossed the finish line 13th in 18:20.1.
