Softball: Allen East stops Pirates in district play

Allen East defeated Bluffton in the opening district contest 6-2 on Wednesday at Bath.

Bluffton finished the season 13-7. Allen East advances at 15-13. Bluffton's runs were by Averey Rumer and Abbie Parkins. Jazmynn Wilson hit one RBI.

Sami Fruchey was the losing pitcher and ended her season at 10-6.

Vancrest of Ada grand opening Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m.

Vancrest of Ada will host a community open house from 1 to 3 p.m., Sunday, May 22, according to Mark A. White, president of Vancrest Management Corp.

The $6 million Vancrest of Ada nursing home includes 56,000-square-foot. When full, it will have 50 beds for skilled nursing care and 32 assisted living units within the main facility. Rehab services will be available when it opens. Vancrest of Ada will employ 75 to 85 people.

The facility is located West North Avenue (State Route 81), across from Ada schools.

All-HCAC release

BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University baseball team had four of its members named Honorable Mention All-Heartland Conference when the post-season hardware was handed out on Tuesday, May 17. Seniors Travis Clark (Lima/Central Catholic) and Jason Colliver (Beavercreek) were joined by juniors Luke Hickey (Toledo/Whitmer) and Taylor Gambrell (Bowling Green) as the awards were announced following the 2016 season.
