Library offers interesting selection of November programs

Fall craft Fridays, family storytime, open mic...just to name a few

Holiday gift silent auction, dulcimers, book signings, book discussions, yoga, art class, mock election...all on the November calendar of the Bluffton Public Library. Here's the schedule of events.

The Holiday Gift Silent Auction is Nov. 1through Nov. 23  With over 40 different packages to offer, this is a place to check some gifts off of your holiday list and benefit your library (and your community).

Items range from gift baskets, lessons in music, art, and dance, an intro to flying, tickets to Kings Island, the World of Coke, various museums, outdoor dramas, and whitewater rafting, handmade soaps and lotions, a llama wool rug, signed books, cooking products, beauty products, and so much more.

Each package has a “Buy Now” price, and as a minimum starting bid. Anonymous bidding is available upon request.

Dulcimers @ the Library continue on Tuesdays at 1 p.m. and Jammin’ @ the Library is every other Monday at 6 p.m. (Nov. 14 and 28).

Chill Zone takes place Tuesdays in November at 3:30 p.m. It is a time and space for tweens and teens to hang out and relax at the library. Anyone in grades 6-12 is welcome to join. Activities include gaming, socializing, themed events and crafting etc. Suggestions for activities are welcome. Snacks are provided.

Join local author Judy Clemens (J.C. Lane) for our NaNoWriMo Kick-Off Workshop on Nov. 1 at 6:30 p.m. Clemens will discuss her writing experiences, and takes participants through some writing prompts to prepare for NaNoWriMo.

Bluffton Public Library is a Come Write In space. This means the library designates quiet space open to all writers participating in National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo). Anyone utilizing the library’s space for this reason should stop at the front desk for a small goodie bag to get them through a hectic month of writing.

The Gardeners of Bluffton/Pandora Area meet on Nov. 1 at 6:30 p.m. Meetings are open to the public.

The library’s Adult Book Discussion group meets Nov. 2 at noon to discuss The Witches by Stacy Schiff. Need more time to read and prepare? Join December’s book discussion on Underground Girls of Kabul by Jenny Nordberg. This discussion group invites new members, but registration is requested.

Yoga Fit by BFR continues Wednesdays in November ( 2, 9, 16 and 30) at 6:30 p.m. on the library lower level. To register and pay your membership fee, contact Bluffton Family Recreation at 419-358-4150.

Brain Builders is held on Thursday, Nov. 3, and Nov. 17 at 4 p.m. It is a program for children grades K-5 and provides opportunities for problem solving and imaginative construction. Registration is required and spaces are limited.

On Fridays in November, the library features Fall Craft Fridays. These events provides crafts for kids, teens, and adults to make in the library.  Take some time to be creative, and maybe your creation will be shared on our website and social media.  BPL also seeks scrapbooking items like paper, decals, scraps, etc. to be used in future craft programs in the library.

Come “Paws 2 Read” with Teddy the therapy dog on Nov. 5 and 19 at 10 a.m.  Teddy loves hearing stories or just getting a friendly cuddle. This program supports literacy, the humane treatment of animals, and healthy stress relief practices. No registration required.

Carol Kraft, author of With Thanksgiving: Meditations on Prayers of Asking and Birthed by the Spirit: Meditations on Images in Prayer, will have a book signing and talk on Monday, Nov. 7, at 6 p.m. Books are available for $10, cash only.

On the following Mondays (Nov. 7, 14, and 28) at 6:30 p.m. enjoy stories of inspirational artists and create your own artwork during Family Storytime: Art Appreciation and Fun. All ages welcome. No registration necessary. children under the age of 8 should be accompanied by an adult.

Bluffton Public Library invites its younger patrons for a Mock Election for Teens and Tweens to practice voting at the library unofficial voting booth on Tuesday, Nov. 8. Results of the mock election will be posted later that week

Have a hidden talent?  Want to practice before the office party? Come on out to the Open Mic at the library on Saturday, Nov. 12, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.  Music and spoken word is encouraged. Please register at the library to receive a time slot.  

On Thursday, Nov. 17, at 10 a.m., the library will host Babies Love Books. It's a  time of stories, movement and song for babies and toddlers (ages birth to 3 years). Activities promote language and motor development. All children must be accompanied by a parent or child care provider who will participate in the program. No prior registration necessary.

Knights of the Game Table will host an event for International Games Day at the library on Saturday, Nov. 19, from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Group founders Nicholas and Katryna Brown and a few volunteers will bring their extensive collection of board games and will teach participants how to play them, while resident DM Aaron will run a beginning friendly Dungeons and Dragons campaign.

This event is open to all ages, with hundreds of board games available for children, families, teens, adults, and even seniors with special needs. This takes place on the library's lower level.

On Monday, Nov. 21, at 5:30 p.m., Jeanne Beutler hosts a Watercolor Workshop on the lower level of the library. This program’s lesson is titled “Snow Family,” and registrants will create a matted 8-inch by 10-inch watercolor art. Cost is $10 and is payable at the door - cash only, please.

Please notice: The library closes early on Wednesday, Nov. 23, (at 5:30 p.m.)  three days (Nov. 24, 25, and 26). The library reopens Monday, Nov. 28 at 9:30 a.m. and due dates will be adjusted accordingly.

The Gluten Free/Food Allergy Support Group next meeting is Monday. Nov. 28, at 6 p.m.  Meet on the library’s lower level to join.
