Just an elementary Skype - from New Zealand to Bluffton

A former Bluffton elementary student, Mia Pannabecker, moved with her family to New Zealand this past fall. Her older brother is Seth, and older sister is Kate.

Beth and Ray Raeburn recently arranged for a time for Mia to Skype with her former class at Bluffton elementary.  The photo shows Mia Skyping.

Mia's parents, Tim and Jo Pannabecker, wrote on Facebook: "We woke Mia soon after 6 a.m., so she would be ready at 6:20 a.m.. Was great to hear Mia talking with her former teacher and classmates."

Community preschool seeks assistant teacher

The Bluffton Community Preschool is hiring an assistant teacher, according to Shelly Matijevich, director.

"We're looking for a reliable individual who can adapt to a changing working environment, is friendly, take directions, child oriented and able to work flexible hours," said Matijevich.

Resumes must be submitted to the Bluffton Community Preschool by Monday, May 9. The preschool is located at First United Methodist Church, 116 Church St., Bluffton.

Shaw features repurposed items at the R Coop

Jane Shaw has opened a new business in a chicken coop behind her home at 2168 Rd R, Bluffton. The R Coop features lawn, garden and floral items for inside and outside. Most are unique items that Shaw has repurposed. 

The seasonal store hours are Thursday 1-7, Friday 10-5 and Saturday 10-1.

Shaw and her husband, Steve, owned and operated Deer Creek Antiques, Bluffton.

Four Bluffton HS students are Allen Lima Youth Leadership grads

Four Bluffton High School students, Gabe Meyer (also an Apollo student), Haley Baker, Jadyn Barhorst and Zane Myers are members of the Allen Lima Youth Leadership Class of 2016.

Gabe's name was accidentially omitted from a previous news release about the event.

The class graduated April 27, at the Allen County Sanitary Engineer’s Office, ALL Executive Director Heather Rutz announced.

May 5 concert features three local singer-songwriters

Three local singer-songwriters will be featured in a concert Thursday, May 5, at 7 p.m. at the Bluffton town hall.

Sam Stucky graduates May 8 from Bluffton University, with majors in math and music. He has been writing songs since his sophomore year of high school, performed with a band called The Luna Program, and several at the Contemporary Music Center in Nashville, TN. 

Jeff Brassell, a Lima native raised in Bluffton, is a singer-songwriter who reflects everyday life in his music.

Six to be confirmed at Trinity Lutheran

Six youth will be confirmed on Sunday, May 1, at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 301 North Main Street, Jenera, in the 10:30 a.m. service. Confirmands include  Nicholas Beach, Hannah Hassan, Trent Hummer, Jayden Mays, Peyton Rettig and Noah VanDermark.  

A regular service will be held at 8 a.m., and at 9:20 a.m., the confirmands will give a review of Bible teachings in a question and answer format. All are welcome to attend and the church is handicapped accessible.
