Bluffton chamber invites individuals to join and help promote the community

Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce launches its new membership drive for 2015-16 on Sept. 1.

With the drive the chamber also launches into several fall activities.

The first chamber breakfast of the fall is Friday, Sept. 11, at 7 a.m. in the Bluffton town hall third floor. The meeting will include an update on several chamber events that have taken place this summer. In addition, several new members and new Bluffton businesses will be introduced.

Antique farm tools focus of Heirloom Antique Club meeting Sept. 1

The Heirloom Antique Club's next meeting is at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 1, in the Bluffton town hall.

The speaker is Jim Gatchell. He is a retired teacher who grew up on his family farm working with his father and grandfather. This work started his interest in old farm tools and a love for historical preservation.

He will display items from his collection of old farm tools during his presentation. Persons are invited to bring any old tool to share with the group.

How about placing a Lincoln Highway plate on your car?

Lincoln Highway enthusiasts may have their own Ohio license plate if enough persons pre-order the plates.

The Ohio Department of Public Safety’s Bureau of Motor Vehicles needs 150 plates reserved by Sept. 30 for the plates to be available to all Ohio residents.

Proceeds will help support the preservation and promotion of the highway, which is a few miles south of Bluffton.

An attachment at the bottom of this story is a form for Icon viewers to make a commitment to purchase the plates. Another attachment explains more details about the plate.

Saturday in downtown

Downtown Bluffton on a Saturday morning is becoming a destination for many shoppers. This view looking north will be used in an upcoming downtown merchants' promotion. The 3/50 Project returns this fall. You'll probably receive a post card in the mail with this photo on the cover.

Lots of adult class options this fall at Bluffton Family Recreation; newsletter now on Icon

Bluffton Family Recreation isn't just for youth. The fall fitness class schedule for adults is now available, according to Joseph Beagle, BFR director.

Class opportunities range from all-star workouts, water exercise, Aqua Zumba, cardio and strength building, SilverSneakers, yoga, to strength and flexibility.

Classes are offered at various times Mondays through Fridays.
