Irene Hamman funeral arrangements incomplete

J. Irene Hamman, 94, died Aug, 6, 2015 at Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton.  Arrangements are pending at Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services, Bluffton.

Bigfoot investigators give presentation at the library Aug. 27

Bluffton Public Library will host a presentation by SOSBI (Southeastern Ohio Society for Bigfoot Investigation) at 6 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 27.  

This event will include a presentation by the group’s founder, Doug Waller, and there will also be time for the audience to report their own Bigfoot sightings and to ask questions about Waller’s travels, Bigfoot hunting, and the process of writing his books.       

Popular farmers' market vendor started making goat's milk soaps and lotions while in high school

Ashley Siferd launched her business career when she was a sophomore at Cory-Rawson High School as a way to help pay for college.

She excelled in her business and while in high school in 2011 was one of 10 (the only girl) agri-entrepreneur award winners at the National FFA convention.

Now entering her final year at University of Northwestern Ohio, she continues her business “Old Homestead Soaps and Lotions.” And, for her eighth season, she sells her homemade products each Saturday at Bluffton’s Farmers’ Market.

Outdoor bowling

A crowd estimated around 2,000 persons attended the Aug. 4 National Night Out at the Bluffton Community Swimming Pool. Among activites was a kid's bowling game using a fire hose. For more photos click here.

Board of directors votes to withdraw community school and STEM school students and reconfigure tournament divisional assignments

The Ohio High School Athletic Association board of directors deliberated Thursday and voted to remove students who attend community schools and STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) schools from their local public school enrollment counts.
