Bluffton police receive over 500 calls for service in June

Third month in a row of 500+ calls; that nearly 20 per day

The Bluffton Police Department report that calls for service numbered above 500 for the third month in a row. In June the department had 537 total calls for service, which is an average of 17.9 calls per day.

June 1

  • An Avondale, Arizona, resident reported ongoing civil issues with her brother who resides in Bluffton.
  • Officers responded to a non-injury traffic crash in the area of Elm Street and Jackson Street. Lois M. Layne, 75, Bluffton, was issued a citation for failure to yield the right of way. The case is pending in Lima Municipal Court.

June 4

  • Officers investigated a suspicious vehicle in the Buckeye Park parking lot on Main Street in the early morning hours. After locating the occupants of the vehicle, the occupants left the scene without incident.
  • Officers responded to an injury crash in the area of Grove Street and Jackson Street. Nicole A. Schweyer, 17, Bluffton, was issued a citation for failure to yield the right of way when turning left. The case was sent to Allen County Juvenile Court and forwarded to Hancock County Juvenile Court where it is pending.

June 7

  • A Lawn Avenue resident reported a loud noise complaint in the area of their residence.

June 8

  • A Ethan Circle resident reported that a person doing renovation work to their house stole items while they were working inside.

June 9

  • A State Route 103 resident reported a protection order violation to police.
  • Officers responded to a non-injury hit/skip traffic crash in the area of County Line Road and State Route 103. After speaking with one of the parties involved, it was determined the other vehicle left the scene and could not be located.

June 10

  • Officers responded to a non-injury traffic crash on Salome Circle. Neither party wished for a report to be done.

June 13

  • Officers responded to the area of Main Street and Snider Road in reference to three injured geese on the side of the roadway. The geese had been struck by a vehicle. Officers dispatched two of the three geese. The third goose was deceased upon the officer’s arrival.

June 14

  • A South Main Street resident reported that her vehicle was damaged while it was parked at the residence.

June 15

  • Officers charged a Lima teenager with a curfew violation while investigating a complaint in the Cherry Street area.
  • A North Main Street business reported threatening comments made toward the business.

June 18

  • A Forest resident reported that while in Bluffton her wallet was taken from her purse.
  • A West Elm Street resident reported a license plate was stolen off her motorhome while it was parked at an East College Avenue storage facility.

June 20

  • A South Main Street resident reported that while out on a walk in the middle of the night she was abducted and raped. The investigation into the complaint is ongoing.
  • An East Elm Street resident reported she received threatening text messages from her ex-boyfriend.

June 21

  • A Garau Street male was accused of inappropriately touching a female. A summons was issued and the case is pending in Lima Municipal Court.

June 22

  • A Garau Street male was accused of inappropriately touching a female. A summons was issued and the case is pending in Lima Municipal Court.
  • A Garau Street male was accused of inappropriately touching a female. A summons was issued and the case is pending in Lima Municipal Court.

  • A Rockport Road resident reported his bicycle was stolen from the Bluffton Community Swimming Pool.
  • A Garau Street male was accused of inappropriately touching a female. A summons was issued and the case is pending in Lima Municipal Court.

June 24

  • A Roseville, Michigan, resident reported that while working as a contracted employee at a Bluffton factory his vehicle was damaged while it was parked in the parking lot.

June 26

  • Officers responded to a Harmon Road residence in reference to a drug overdose.

June 27

  • An East College Avenue resident reported an ongoing issue between her son and a neighbor.

June 29

  • A Garau Street male was accused of inappropriately touching a female. A summons was issued and the case is pending in Lima Municipal Court.
  • A Garau Street male was accused of inappropriately touching a female. A summons was issued and the case is pending in Lima Municipal Court.

June 30

  • A Greding Street resident reported a breaking and entering complaint and items that were stolen from a building he owns on Vance Street.
  • Officers arrested Cortney Hemenway, 34, Lima, on an outstanding warrant from the Allen County Sheriff’s Office.
  • Officers arrested Denzall Bowlson, 23, Lima, on an outstanding warrant from the Allen County Sheriff’s Office.
  • A Harmon Road resident reported to police that she believed her grandson was attempting to harm himself. The resident did not know where her grandson was at and after searching numerous locations in the village, officers were unable to locate the subject.
