Pirates host Rockets in football (for real) on Sept. 6

Pandora-Gilboa vs. Bluffton HS football rivalry returns after 54 season absence

It’s July, but let’s talk fall Bluffton High School sports.

Alex Hanna, BHS athletic director, released the fall sports schedules, attached at the bottom of this story.

One rivalry of the past is back on the BHS football schedule as the Pirates host Pandora-Gilboa on Friday, Sept. 6, in a non-conference game.

Dr. Robert Puckett joins Carey Medical Center

Blanchard Valley Medical Practices, a division of Blanchard Valley Health System, recently welcomed Robert Puckett, D.O., to Carey Medical Center. The office is located at 120 West S. St., Carey. Dr. Puckett is welcoming new patients.

Dr. Puckett is a Carey native and received his bachelor’s degree from The University of Toledo. He completed his osteopathic medical degree at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine, Erie, Pennsylvania. Dr. Puckett then completed his family medicine and osteopathic manipulative medicine residency at Millcreek Community Hospital, also in Erie. 

Bluffton's big bird

Joel Dunifon was probably just as surprised as the great blue heron when Dunifon cross the Riley on Columbus Grove Road. He saw the big bird, stopped and took this photo with is cell phone. Bluffton's big bird is a fixture along Riley Creek.

Invitation to Maple Crest hobby and collection show

Thursday evening from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Elders of Maple Crest invites the community to view displays of hobbies and collections from 19 elders from 6:30 to 8 p.m., Thursday, July 11, in the Maple Crest Patio Room.

The show ranges from Oliver Lugibihl’s nuts and jams to Paul Klassen’s water color paintings to Jim Smith’s toy farm equipment to Becky Sprunger’s knitting - plus many other displays.

The exhibit is free and open to the public.

BFR summer session 3 sign up underway

Youth programming from July 22 to Aug. 16

Sign-up for participting in programming for Bluffton Family Recreation's Summer Session 3 is underway according to Daniel Tinch, BFR executive director.

Session 3 runs from Monday, July 22, through Friday, Aug. 16. The summer BFR newsletter, attached to this story lists programs available.

Update from Bluffton Cattle Club

The Bluffton Cattle Club met Here is the club's news, as reported by Landon Selhorst:

On Sunday, July 14, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. we will be having the chicken BBQ at the Bluffton Middle School. Cattle club members - be sure to wear your 4-H shirt.
