Jazz and gospel music performed Nov. 11

Concert in Yoder Recital Hall

Bluffton University will host a concert featuring its Jazz Ensemble and Gospel Choir at 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, in Yoder Recital Hall. The performance is free and open to the public; a free-will offering will be taken during intermission for music scholarships.

The Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Andrew Liebermann, will play several jazz numbers that are arranged for various configurations including big band. A couple of the pieces “Oh, Didn’t He Ramble” and “Crescendo Date” were edited by Jeffrey Sultanof and Rob DuBoff.

The Gospel Choir’s program will include songs in anticipation of the Christmas holiday season including a song by Kirk Franklin titled “Now Behold the Lamb” and an interesting arrangement of the “Hallelujah Chorus” from the Soulful Messiah! Members of the Jazz Ensemble will accompany the choir on this piece.

The choir will also be accompanied by Columbus-based professional musicians, Terry Davis, keys; James Vines, bass and Wesley Sellers, drums.
