100-year-old Albert Bauman was retired farmer and school bus driver

Albert F. Bauman, 100, died Sept. 7, 2016, at 10:56 a.m. at Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton. 

Albert was born Sept. 17, 1915 in Union Township, Hancock County, Ohio, to the late Reuben and Lina (Klammer) Bauman.  On Nov. 10, 1940 he married Geneva King Bauman who preceded him in death on Sept. 18, 2003.

Albert was a farmer and drove school bus for Mt. Cory for many years. He was a member of Mt. Cory United Methodist Church, Hancock County Farm Bureau and was a graduate of Mt. Cory High School.

Still room for crafter and home businesses at BFR expo during Fall Festival

Bluffton Family Recreation will hold a crafters and home business expo during this year’s Bluffton Fall Festival on Saturday, Sept. 24, according to Joseph Beagle, BFR director.

Booths are still being accepted for the event, held at BFR, 215 Snider Road. Expo hours are 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Booths 6 feet by 12 feet are $30 each. The registration deadline soon, so crafters and home business persons should register now.

University homecoming celebrated Oct. 15-16 with many events planned

Bluffton University will celebrate “A Place That Inspires” during Homecoming weekend Oct. 15 and 16.
 
A free picnic lunch will be available for alumni in an alumni tailgate tent at Emery Sears Athletic Complex from noon until 1:30 p.m., when the Homecoming game against Hanover will begin. No reservations are required for the tent; game tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for youth at the gate. Admission is free for children ages 4 and under.
 

Girls' soccer: Bluffton blows out Lincolnview 12-1

The Bluffton Lady Pirates girls' soccer team traveled to Van Wert Tuesday  to take on the Lincolnview Lancers. BHS won 12-1.

Bluffton started strong, and the Lancer goalie blocked more than 10 shots before Senior Captain Abbie Parkins landed the first goal 8 minutes into the game.

Post office holds passport fair Sept. 17

Bluffton post office will hold a passport fair from noon to 3 p.m., Saturday, Sept.17, at the post office, 132 S. Main St.

Items needed for a passport included proof of citizenship (birth certificate) and proof of identity (driver's license or identification form).

Cost for passports:
• Adult - 16 and up - passport book $135
• Adult - passport card - $55
• Minor (15 and younder) - passport book - $105
• Minor - passport card - $50
• Photos - $15

Several Bluffton council committee meetings and other village-related meetings were announced at the Sept. 6 council session:

• Thursday, Sept. 8 - planning commission, 7 p.m.
• Tuesday, Sept. 13 - State Route 103 corridor study public meeting, 6 p.m.
• Wednesday, Sept. 14 - tree commission, 7:30 p.m.
• Thursday, Sept. 15 - airport advisory commission, 7:45 p.m.
• Monday, Sept. 19 - council meeting, 8 p.m.

Mayor Judy Augsburger set trick-or-treat night in Bluffton for 6 to 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 27.
