Goodbye Brother Cottonwood

It took a 90-ton crane to topple the largest cottonwood tree in Bluffton earlier this week. The tree (see top view) was home to countless wildlife and watched over the Riley Creek bank between the creek and National Quarry, just north of the Jefferson Street bridge. Tree Tech removed the tree because of the new bridge being installed on Jefferson. The removal was due to the fear that the tree may some day fall onto the bridge. The bottom photo shows the scene minus the tree.
