If Ohio’s election for governor was in Bluffton was a “red wave,” it was a “red tsunami” in Richland Township.

Since 1936 village and township voters supported Republicans for governor in each election except for two – 1936 and 2006.

This year’s totals in Bluffton were:
895 for DeWine (Republican)
570 for Cordray (Democrat)
13 for Gadell-Newton (Green)
19 Irvine (Independent)

This year’s totals in Richland Township were:
665 DeWine (Rep)
181 Cordray (Dem)
8 for Gadell-Newton (G)
12 Irvine (I)

Republicans, in Bluffton, however, did not vote a straight ticket. In the senator race beween Brown (D) and  Renacci (R) the Democrat candidate actually won two for the village’s three precincts and lost to the Republican challenger by only 50 votes, 770 to 720.

In Richland Township the red tsunami rolled in the senate race with Renacci winning 662 to 254.
