Helen Hilty was active in many Columbus Grove organizations

She was a member of the Descendants of the Mayflower

Helen C. Hilty, 105, died Friday, Jan. 18, 2019, at the Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton, Ohio.  She was born June 21, 1913, to A. Elmer and Emma (Laibe) Campbell.  They both preceded her in death.

On July 6, 1940, she married Dr. Donald Hilty, who preceded her in death on Oct. 20, 1989.

Helen was a homemaker. Helen graduated from Pandora High School in 1930 and attended Bluffton University.  She was a member of The First Presbyterian Church in Columbus Grove, where she served as an elder, deacon and a Sunday school teacher.  Helen was also very involved in Presbyterian Women.  She was a member of the Columbus Grove Presbyterian Church for most of her life and is presently a member of the Bluffton Presbyterian Church.

She was a member of the Columbus Grove Friends of the Library and was on the board of the Putnam County Library.  She volunteered many years for the Columbus Grove Band Boosters, PTA and Girl Scouts.  Helen was a member of the Descendants of the Mayflower, Eastern Star, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Profit and Pleasure Club.

Survivors include three daughters, Ann Hilty, Sue (Chris) Wilson and Nancy (Dave) Wilson; five grandchildren, Erin Wilson, Peter (Hayley Wrubel) Wilson, Kathryn Wilson, Andrew Wilson and Zachary (Axia) Wilson and three great-grandchildren, Naomi Wilson, Miles Wilson and Francesca Wilson.

Also surviving are two sisters-in-law Marjorie Hilty, Pat Campbell and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by five sisters and three brothers, Mary Davenport, Lisle Campbell, Irene Radebaugh Warren Campbell, Naomi Kempf, Phyllis Hilty, Wilton Campbell and Frances Ewing.  She is also preceded in death by one sister-in-law, Esther Bucher and one brother-in-law Dr. Mark Hilty.

A memorial service will be held at a later date to be announced.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Putnam County Library-Columbus Grove Branch, the Bluffton Presbyterian Church or the Mennonite Home Communities of Ohio.
