Dental clinic, book fair, testing day coming soon

Here's an event update from Bluffton elementary

Here's an update on event in March and April at the Bluffton Elementary School, from the elementary March newsletter.

CALAMITY DAYS: We have missed five calamity school days so far this school year.  We are allowed five calamity days before we need to make up the days.  Days missed from this point on will require a make-up day of Thursday, April 9, and/or at the end of the school year.  

SPRING PICTURE DAY: On Tuesday, March 10, elementary students will get their spring pictures taken.  The pictures will be prepay only.  Students purchasing a package on Picture Day will be the only ones to get their picture taken. You may order online at mylifetouch.com.  The picture ID is EVTT64TGJ, or you may order with the form sent home with students. 

5th GRADE QUIZ BOWL TEAM: Congratulations to the 5th grade quiz bowl team for finishing first runner-up in the Allen County Quiz Bowl tournament. Bluffton team members are: Daphne Johnston, Katie Bauman, Rebekah Rehm, Henry Jordan, Coby Dailey, Eli Lehman, Katherine Gratz, Roselove Jebsen, Chase Kelly, and Owen Shoemaker. They are coached by middle school teacher, Nicole Flory. 

DENTAL CLINIC:  A dental clinic coming school on Tuesday, April 7. The organization, Big Smiles, will provide thisin-school dental care service.  For most cases there is no cost to you if your child is insured with Medicaid or CHIP.  Private insurance and affordable self-pay options are also available.  

This in-school dentist provides dental care,which includes a complete exam, X-rays, cleaning, fluoride and sealants when needed. Restorative care, such as fillings, may also be provided. Simply fill out the permission form sent home with your child today and return it to school no later than Fridaym, March 20, or register on-line at www.MySchoolDentist.com. TESTING DAYS:  Students in grades 3-5 will take Ohio English Language Arts tests on April 15 and 16.  They will take Ohio Math tests on April 29 and 30.  Fifth grade students will take Ohio Science tests on April 22 and 23.  

ARTWORK AT PUBLIC LIBRARY:  March is “Youth Art Month” at the Bluffton Public Library.  Fifteen works of art from the elementary were recently chosen to be displayed.  Robots on woven paper, colorful landscapes, superhero city drawings, cave art and emoji printmaking are among the work showcased this month.  

Congratulations to the following students: 
First grade: Declan Ewing, Noah DeMarco and Wesley Combs. 
Second grade: Easton Dunifon, Peyton Lieurance and Barrett Benroth.  
Third grade: Leah Granger, Evan Blue and Samantha Ruller. 
Fourth grade: Megan Follas, Lainey Grandey and Camryn Fruchey. 
Fifth grade: Owen Shoemaker, Laney Kiene and Hunter Nuzum.  Work was chosen based on creativity and artistic merit. 

BOOK FAIR WEEK OF APRIL 27:  The elementary spring Book Fair will be held April 27 through May 1.  The Book Fair will be open daily from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. Family night is Tuesday, April 28, from 6-8 p.m. This Book Fair is a buy one/get one free (BOGO).  The Book Fair will close at 2 p.m. on Friday. All proceeds provide books and materials for our library.

P.T.O. NEWS:  The PTO  sponsors a Scotch Doubles Tournament at South Gate Lanes on Sunday,  March 15, at 12:30 p.m. There is still time to register your team online (utilize the link provided on the PTO Facebook page). Our spring spirit wear sale is underway and order forms were sent home. Orders are due Friday, March 13. You can send order forms back to school or you can order online at https://www.shopscoreboard.com/.  The PTO has reserved Grove Skateland on Sunday, April 26 from 1-3 p.m. 

KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION:  Any child who will be 5 years old by Aug. 1, 2020, is eligible to enroll.  In order to develop a kindergarten mailing list, please contact the elementary office at 419-358-7951.
