Mustangs edge Pirates by 1 stroke

In four-team NWC match

BLUFFTON - The Bluffton golf team played well in a tight four-team Northwest Conference match Monday at the Bluffton Golf Course.

Allen East edged the co-host Pirates by one stroke to win, 166-167. Paulding (173) was third, followed by Ada (210).

Jaden Coonfare and Kenny Lovett each led Bluffton with a round of 40, good for a third place tie. Pirate Wes Brauen registered a 42, while teammate Michael Minnig added 45.

Jacob Boisvert (48) and Kyler Kinn (55) rounded out the Bluffton efforts.

Zach Miller of AE was match medalist with a score of 37. Mustang teammate Carter Frey finished right behind him with a total of 38.

Bluffton improved to 4-1 in league play, while AE is 3-0. The Ada linksters are 0-12 and 0-6 in the NWC.

Bluffton is scheduled to play at the Allen East Colonial Golfers tournament Tuesday, August 18 at 9 a.m. Bath, Columbus Grove, Findlay and Kalida are among the other teams competing.
