Bluffton swimmers win quad and dual meets

Prepare for swimming sectional on Feb. 13

The Bluffton Swim Team wo a quad meet with Lima Central Catholic, Bath and Marion Local on Friday, Jan. 22, at the Lima YMCA. 

And, on Jan. 28, Bluffton won a dual meet with Lima Senior. Results of that meet are at the bottom of this story.

Quad meet on Jan. 22

The Bluffton girls 200 meter medley relay team took second place which consisted of Olivia Barnes, Ella Armstrong, Allison Diller, and Andrea Bourassa. 

The Bluffton boys 200 meter medley relay teams took first and second place.  The winning team consisted of Riley Verb, Simon Derstine, CJ McCall, and Landon Armstrong had a winning time 1:54:34. 

Ellie Hoffman won the 200 meter freestyle with a time of 2:21:47 while Andrea Bourassa finished eighth.  

Landon Armstrong finished in second place in the 200 meter freestyle.  Izzy Stechschulte finished in second place in the girls 200 meter individual medley while CJ McCall won the boys 200 meter individual medley with a time of 2:41:21.  

Allison Diller won the 50 meter freestyle with a time of 27:88.  CJ McCall won the 100 meter butterfly with a time of 1:11:27.  Ella Armstrong won the girls 100 meter freestyle with a time of 1:06:15. 

Riley Verb won the boys 100 meter freestyle while teammates Landon Armstrong finished third and Simon Derstine finished fourth.  The Bluffton girls 200 meter freestyle relay team of Ellie Hoffman, Ella Armstrong, Izzy Stechschulte and Allison Diller won with a time of 1:54:58. 

The Bluffton boys 200 meter freestyle relay team of Eric Nygaard, Jacob Lehman, Sam Derstine and Nolan Hoffman placed third.  Allison Diller won the 100 meter breaststroke with a time of 1:16:98 and Ellie Hoffman finished second. 

Riley Verb won the 100 meter breaststroke with a time of 1:06:98 while teammates Sam Derstine finished fifth and Erik Nygaard finished sixth.  The Bluffton girls 400 meter freestyle team of Izzy Stechschulte, Ella Armstrong, Celia Smith, and Ellie Armstrong finished in second place. 

The Bluffton boys 400 meter freestyle team of Tyler Cupples, Landon Armstrong, Simon Derstine and Riley Verb won with a time of 3:50:93.  The Bluffton swim team outscored Bath 144 to 139, outscored Marion Local 146 to 111, and outscored Lima Central Catholic 169 to 38.  

Dual meet with Lima Senior

The Bluffton Swim Team hosted a dual meet with Lima Senior High School on Thursday, Jan. 28, at the Putnam County YMCA in Ottawa. 

The following student athletes competed for Bluffton; seniors Olivia Barnes, Andrea Bourassa, Simon Derstine, Ellie Hoffman, and Celia Smith, sophomores Landon Armstrong, Sam Derstine, Allison Diller, CJ McCall, Erik Nygaard and Riley Verb, and freshmen Ella Armstrong, Jacob Lehman, and Izzy Stechschulte. 

The Bluffton girls 200 meter medley relay team took second place which consisted of Olivia Barnes, Alison Diller, Izzy Stechschulte, and Ella Armstrong. 

The Bluffton boys 200 meter medley relay teams took first place which consisted of Riley Verb, Simon Derstine, CJ McCall, and Landon Armstrong with a winning time 1:51:28. 

CJ McCall won the 200 meter freestyle with a time of 2:20:08 with teammate Erik Nygaard taking second place. 

Allison Diller won the girls 200 meter individual medley with a time of 2:32:79 while Riley Verb won the boys 200 meter individual medley with a time of 2:15:35.  
Ellie Hoffman placed second in the 50 meter freestyle while teammates Celia Smith finished fourth and Andrea Bourassa finished fifth. 

Simon Derstine won the 50 meter freestyle with a time of 26:42 while teammates Sam Derstine finished second and Jacob Lehman finished fourth.  

Riley Verb won the 100 meter butterfly with a time of 1:00:01. 

Izzy Stechschulte won the girls 100 meter freestyle with a time of 1:07:21 while teammates Olivia Barnes finished third and Celia Smith finished fifth. 

Landon Armstrong won the boys 100 meter freestyle with a time of 56:93 while teammate Erik Nygaard finished second. 

The senior girls, consisting of Ellie Hoffman, Olivia Barnes, Celia Smith, and Andrea Bourassa, competed in the girls 200 meter freestyle relay team for Senior Night and finished in second place. 

Izzy Stechschulte won the 100 meter breaststroke with a time of 1:17:29. 

Alison Diller won the 100 meter breaststroke with a time of 1:18:38 while teammate Ellie Hoffman finished third. 

Landon Armstrong won the 100 meter breaststroke with a time of 1:11:85 while teammate Sam Derstine finished third. 

The Bluffton boys 400 meter freestyle team of Riley Verb, Simon Derstine, Landon Armstrong and CJ McCall won with a time of 4:04:47.  

The Bluffton swim team outscored Lima Senior 131 to 110.  Cory-Rawson was represented by Malia Lee with 8 total points as Malia won the 200 meter freestyle with a time of 2:40:93 and finished fourth in the 100 meter backstroke. 

Next up for Bluffton is the sectional swim meet on Saturday, Feb. 13, at the Lima YMCA that will be hosted by the Bluffton swim team.
