Sandra Webb 1953 - 2016

Sandra J. Webb, 62, died on Thursday, Aug. 11, 2016 at 8:09 a.m. at Lima Memorial Health System.

She was born on Aug. 29, 1953, in Lima, Ohio to Richard Lester and Goldie (Moore) Moore who preceded her in death. On June 20, 1970, she married Kenneth E. Webb and he survives in Lima.

Sandra was a homemaker and she previously worked at Rudolph Foods Co. in Westminster.

Local band, Brother Believe Me, performs Saturday in Ada

The popular local band, Brother Believe Me, will perform at the Party on the Back 40 at the year's Farmers and Merchants Picnic in Ada. The local band will perform from 8 p.m. until midnight on Saturday. There is $3 cover charge.

Look for a large, white tent on the north east corner of War Memorial Park for the entertainment site. The band plays rain or shine.

Band members include Brian Carpenter of Lima, drums and vocal (former manager of Bluffton Arby's), Jason Wheeler of the Allen East community, guitar, Chris Brokamp, bass, and Jon Drake, vocals.

We are closing in on the 2016-17 Bluffton school year. Here's information about the elementary school from the school website:

SCHOOL SUPPLIES:  Click here for school supplies. Kindergarten student supplies will be furnished in their classrooms. 

MEET THE TEACHER:  We will hold our “Meet the Teacher” on Friday, Aug. 26, from 2: to 3 p.m. in the elementary school.

James Satterwhite was a Bluffton University professor

Dr. James Haywood Satterwhite, Ph. D., died Aug. 10, 2016, at 2 p.m. at Hilty Memorial Home, Pandora.  James was born Dec. 28, 1946, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, to James P. and Altha (Smith) Satterwhite. On Jan. 23, 1976, he married Olwen Pritchard who survives in Bluffton.

James was a graduate of the Canadian Academy in Japan, received his Bachelor's Degree from the University of South Florida and his Master's and Doctorate degrees from University of Washington in Seattle.

Tabbi Geiger works on her routine with the Bluffton High School flag corp. Rehersals for this fall's performances with the high school band started this week.

Lincoln Highway Buy-Way sales underway

The three-day annual Lincoln Highway Buy-Way across America yard sale began in Ada on Thursday morning amid sunny skies. Here, Mike Streicher of Bluffton gets a map of the 17 Ada sales sites from Deb Curlis, Ada Chamber president. The tent along Main Street in the Railroad Park will be manned those three days by the Chamber and C.I.C. members, the local sponsoring organizations. In addition to handing out the maps, people visiting the tent can also find Ada Sesquicentennial books and yardsticks.
