Maurice Fett always had Bluffton in mind

It's hard to image a Bluffton without Maurice Fett. In the prime of his life, he was part of everything that moved in Bluffton's business community. His involvement included the Bluffton Stone Company, the first streetscape program, Citizens National Bank, American Legion and Main Street businesses (He owned Fett's Hardware).

Say it ain't so: Larry Core retires from the fire department

After attending the Oct. 12 Bluffton council meeting I learned that Larry Core is retiring from the Bluffton fire department. Someone at the meeting asked how long Larry was a member of the department.

Chief Bowden's reply was: "Our records don't go back that far."

Friends of Library book and sale planned

The Friends of the Bluffton Public Library will host a book and bake sale during the week of Oct. 26-31. The sale will take place at Bluffton Public Library, 145 S. Main St., Bluffton, during regular library hours.

In addition to books, other items will also be available for purchase, including magazines, videocassettes, compact discs, books on audiocassette, and other miscellaneous material. Complimentary cups of coffee will also be available.

On Friday, Oct. 30, the public is invited to meet the new library director, Cindi Chasse, during regular library hours.

Low brass

Do you know this tune?

Matt Suderman, Bluffton High School band member, demonstrates his ability to perform scales without placing his lips on the mouthpiece of his low brass band instrument. Oct. 16 was band member parent night. Suderman is one of the seniors in the band. It was the final home game for the BHS football team, who placed Lima Central Catholic.

Former Bluffton resident Sue Sazima, 75, of Shepherd, Mich., died Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2009, at St. Mary's Hospital in Saginaw, Mich.
