Mustard Seed Cafe back from vacation with regular hours

Mustard Seed Café 562 N. Main St. Bluffton, is back from vacation with regular hours (see website mustardseedcafebluffton.com).

For dinner Friday and Saturday 5-8, the regular menu is available and the following features are offered:

DINNER: Seafood Stuffed Shrimp
LIGHT PLATE: Lobster Ravioli with Caribbean Lime Crème
DESSERT: Key Lime Crepe Cake

Both wine and beer are now available at the café and on the outdoor patio.  Reservations are suggested for dinner:  567-226-1120.

70 years ago Triplett softball was king in Bluffton

In 1944, the Triplett Corp's softball team was the team to beat in northwestern Ohio. The team compiled a 16-1 record, losing only to a Tiffin team.

Some familiar last names on the team included: Burkholder, Swank, Eikenbary, Ream, Gratz, Deppler, Berkey, Geiger, Luginbuhl, Moser and Basinger. The members are identified in the photo.

10 students receive Henry Huber Scholarships, now in its 35th year

The Henry P. Huber Scholarship Committee has announced the recipients of the 2014-2015 Huber Scholarship grants.

Greg Denecker, Superintendent of Bluffton Schools and a member of the scholarship committee, reports a total of $18,750.00 was awarded to 10 students.

The scholarships are for students planning to major in vocational agriculture, or related fields of study. 

This year’s scholarship recipients are as follows.  An asterisk indicates the student was a Huber Scholarship recipient last year also.

Vera Core spent much of her career in Main Street businesses; was former senior citizens director

Vera Kathryn Gratz Core died at 12:10 a.m., July 9, 2014, at the Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton. She was born on June 5, 1917, in Bluffton to the late Ernest and Lena Boegli Gratz. On Nov. 28, 1937 she was married to George Richard Core who died Feb. 24, 1997.

United Way 50/50 winner donates winnings back

Who is Julie? That was the question on Saturday, June 28, prior to the fireworks display at Bluffton University’s Dwight Salzman Stadium when Mayor Judy Augsburger reached her hand into the container to pull the winner of the United Way of Bluffton, Beaverdam and Richland Township 50/50 drawing.

The winning entry was simply listed as "Julie."

Little did anyone know that United Way of Bluffton, Beaverdam and Richland Township Secretary Stacy Stumbaugh was a detective in her past life and quickly uncovered that

Draper, Sheehan, Gleason join BFR staff this summer

Several new faces are greeting customers at BFR this summer.

Derek Draper was hired in mid-May as the Front Office Manager. Draper is a recent graduate from the University of Findlay Sport and Event Management program. Not only does Derek bring a professional and friendly presence to the front desk, he also brings his collegiate baseball experience to the facility. A Riverdale High School graduate, Draper played four years on the Oiler Baseball Team. The front office manager oversees customer service at the facility, as well as special events and inside advertising.
