Keeney Peace Lecture highlights the connection of Hip-Hop culture and Christian faith

Presented by Earlham College professor

Using videos and lyrics from popular hip-hop artists such as the Fugees, Chance the Rapper, Bobby Shmurda and J.Cole intertwined with scripture and stories from the Bible, Dr. James Logan shared with Bluffton University students, faculty and staff why Christians should work side by side with the hip-hop generation—activists, organizers, practitioners, public intellectuals and ordinary people—to confront problems such as mass incarceration, religious and ethnic xenophobia, and political vindictiveness.
 

Earlham wraps up sweep with 9-1 win over baseball

RICHMOND, Ind. - The Bluffton University baseball team dropped a 9-1 decision at Earlham College on Tuesday, April 25, 2017. Bluffton fell to 13-19 overall and 6-14 in the Heartland Conference, while Earlham improved to 19-11 and 14-6 in the HCAC.

Planting seeds of peace for 30 years

Bluffton University Lion and Lamb Center celebrates

In 1987, Dr. Libby Hostetler, professor emeritus of education, planted the idea of a more peaceful future at Bluffton and in the world. During a sabbatical year, Hostetler developed The Lion and Lamb Peace Arts Center which uses the arts and literature to promote the study of peace and justice, cultural understanding and nonviolent responses to conflict with an emphasis on these themes for children. To celebrate 30 years, an open house was held on Thursday, April 20.
 

Webb and Elchert top university senior athletes

It started with Bill Lape in 1962 and Anna Simcox in 1977

Bluffton University presented its top athletics awards April 18 to standout athletes in basketball and track and field.

Trey Elchert of Jackson Center, Ohio, accepted the A.C. Burcky Award as senior male athlete of the year, while Terrill Webb of Kenton, Ohio, won the Kathryn E. Little Award as outstanding senior female athlete. Elchert, an early childhood education major, is the son of Scott and Leisha Elchert. Webb is an exercise science major. She is the daughter of Doug and Lynn Webb.

Chad Gundy of Flanagan, Ill.; Rachel Beining of Ottoville, May Day king, queen

Part of university commencement weekend May 6-7

Bluffton University’s annual May Day ceremony will take place at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 6, and will include the traditions of the crowning of a king and queen and the Maypole dance by first-year students.

Filling the roles of king and queen this year are seniors Chad Gundy of Flanagan, Ill., and Rachel Beining of Ottoville, Ohio.

Madzia named HCAC Pitcher of the Week

BLUFFTON, Ohio - Bluffton University junior Jessie Madzia (Massillon/Tuslaw) was named the Heartland Conference Pitcher of the Week. It marks the third time this season that a Bluffton softball player has earned Player of the Week honors following Nicole Thomas (Tontogany/Otsego) and Brittany Huff (Clayton/Northmont).
