Pennsylvania pastor minister-in-residence

Pennsylvania pastor Kathy Keener Shantz was a guest at Bluffton University as part of the minister-in-residence program, Oct. 13-15. Shantz, pastor at James Street Mennonite Church in Lancaster, Pa., and attended classes, met with President James M. Harder, several faculty and administration members, and attended a luncheon with the Pathways Scholars. In addition she gave the chapel message on Thursday, Oct. 15.

Cross-cultural experiences told in Forum

Bluffton University students share cross-cultural experiences

Bluffton University students who participated in cross-cultural experiences during the 2008-09 academic year will share those experiences with the public at 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27, in Founders Hall, as part of Bluffton University's weekly forum series. The events are free and open to the public.

Oct. 31 university's fall instrumental concert

Bluffton University will hold its annual fall instrumental concert at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 31, in Yoder Recital Hall. The concert will feature the Jazz Band and the Concert Band. It will also be the debut performance of the Bluffton University Chamber Winds. The concert is free and open to the public.

Family Day Oct. 31 at university

Bluffton University will celebrate its annual Family Day on Saturday, Oct. 31. Family Day is an opportunity for relatives of current students to come and enjoy a day filled with activities on campus.

"Messiah" rehearsals begin Oct. 13

Opening chords of Handel's Messiah

Practice for Bluffton University's 114th performance of Handel's Messiah will begin at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 13, in the Gilliom Room of Mosiman Hall. Anyone from high school students to adults who has an interest in singing is welcome to attend. This year's performance will occur on Sunday, Dec. 6.

Performing the Messiah has been a long-standing Bluffton tradition, almost reaching back to the founding of the university. Although for a few years it was performed at both Easter and Christmas, Messiah is now solely an Advent/Christmas tradition for Bluffton.

Community building Oct. 24 forum topic

Youth minister, John Collart will present "Building Community, Serving Communities," at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24, in Founders Hall, as a part of Bluffton University's weekly Forum series. The event is free and open to the public.
