Apollo Community Celebration kick-off to National Career Technical Education on Jan. 29

 

Apollo Career Center will hold its first-everl Apollopalooza on Jan. 29, 5:30-7 p.m., to kick-off National Career and Technical Education Month, which runs through February. Apollopalooza will showcase both the high school and adult education programs. The event is free and open to the public.

Collier, Basinger in Van Wert Civic Theatre "Big River" production

The Van Wert Civic Theatre is presenting the Tony Award winning musical Big River, a country and bluegrass musical adaptation of Mark Twain's classic 1884 novel "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn".

The show is directed by Jerry  Zimmerman and features two Bluffton dramatists, Everett Collier and Dan Basinger.

Everett Collier is performing in the role of Big Jim, the runaway slave who encounters Huck while seeking his own freedom.

Dan Basinger plays Pap Finn, Huck's drunk and violent father and the catalyst behind Huck's own journey.

Academy Award nominated "Lincoln" at the Shannon Theatre Feb. 1-7

According to Peter Suter of the Shannon Theatre, "Lincoln" will be playing Feb. 1 - 7.  The movie is rated PG-13.  This movie has been met with much critical acclaim and is nominated for 12 Academy Awards.

"As the Civil War continues to rage, America's president struggles with continuing carnage on the battlefield and as he fights with many inside his own cabinet on the decision to emancipate the slaves." (IMDb)

Show times are:

Daily at 7:00 p.m. and  9:30 p.m.

Saturday & Sunday matinees at 1:30 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.

Keeping Active free programs continue at BFR

The third week of Keeping Active’s free fitness and nutritional programs is underway at BFR Sports & Fitness.  The week will include free walking days, plus free exercise classes and demonstrations.  These include the following:  

The Rethink Your Drink program will be on going from 1 p.m. - 3 p.m. on Saturday
and 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. on Sunday.

Red Cross blood drive scheduled in Mt. Cory

The Red Cross will be holding a Blood Drive in Mt. Cory at the Mt. Cory Masonic Temple, 16000 St. Route 235 on Jan. 30, 12 p.m. - 6 p.m.

How to Donate Blood
Individuals who are 17 years of age (16 with parental permission in some states), meet weight and height requirements (110 pounds or more, depending on their height) and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. Individuals should bring their Red Cross blood donor card or other form of positive ID when they come to donate.

Le Miserables at Shannon, Jan 25 - 31

'Le Miserables' is coming to the Shannon Theatre from Jan. 25 - 31.  The movie is rated PG-13.

'Le Mis', set in 19th-century France, is the story of Jean Valjean, who for decades has been hunted by the ruthless policeman Javert after he breaks parole.  He agrees to care for factory worker Fantine's daughter, Cosette. The fateful decision changes their lives forever. (IMDb)

The movie stars Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe and Anne Hathaway.
