Carol Ann Gibbs worked at MMH and Gillette's Bakery

Carol Ann Gibbs, 76, died Jan. 29, 2020, at the Bridge Hospice Care Center, Findlay. Carol was born July 28, 1943, in Findlay to the late Robert and Evelyn (Coppler) Foltz. On March 19, 1961, she married David Gibbs who preceded her in death on Dec. 15, 2012. 

Carol graduated from Findlay High School. She had worked in the laundry department at Mennonite Memorial Home, at Gillette's Bakery in Bluffton, in the shoe department at Elder-Beerman and was a receptionist at H & R Block.

Ada-made Super Bowl football

David Wilson, plant controller of Ada's Wilson Sporting Goods factory, holds one of the 2020 Super Bowl footballs produced in Ada. He said that the footballs went into production immediately following the final playoff game on Jan. 19. After that 108 balls were shipped to San Francisco and 108 to Kansas City.

Rev. Carol Clements will retire from local pastorate in February

She has served St. John's UCC for 10 years.

Rev. Carol Clements, pastor of St. John’s United Church of Christ, will retire from the local pastorate following the Sunday, Feb. 23, worship service. She served as its pastor since October 2010.

While at Bluffton she participated in several community organizations including the Bluffton Area Ministerial Association. St. John’s is home to the Bluffton Community Assistance Program’s food pantry.

“I’ve appreciated my years in Bluffton. This community offers an excellent ministry program to worshipers,” she said of her time here.

Urologic oncology services now available at Bluffton Hospital

From Blanchard Valley Urology Associates

A wide range of urology services are now available at Bluffton Hospital through Blanchard Valley Urology Associates, a division of Blanchard Valley Health System. 

The physicians are now accepting new patents in Bluffton.

Services include laparoscopic and robotic surgery, treatment of kidney stones, overactive bladder, benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and prostate cancer.

Bailie Barrington breaks school record in the 1000-meter run

The Bluffton Track and Field team made the short trip to Ada for the Larry Cole Invite at Ohio Northern University on Friday, Jan. 25.

There were some stellar performances on the women's side. Senior Bailie Barrington (Waynesfield/Waynesfield-Goshen) broke the school record in the 1000-meter run with a time of 3:16. She ended up 8th in the field. Another record was broken by freshman Caitlyn Renner (Cairo/Bath) in the long jump. Renner jumped 5.07 meters which put her 3rd in the competition. This distance has her 1st amongst HCAC long-jump competitors.

Three new leadership roles announced at Mercy Health-St. Rita's

Mercy Health-St. Rita’s Medical Center announced three new leadership roles effective Jan. 6. They follow:

Matt Owens, MD, is the Chief Clinical Officer. He served as Chief Medical Officer of Mercy Health Physicians – Lima and the clinically integrated network in Lima since 2017. He initially joined the medical staff of Mercy Health- St. Rita’s in 2009 upon completion of his medical training. He is board certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
