No 2020 arts and crafts show

Cancelled due to the impact of COVID-19 restrictions

The Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce announced the canceling of its 2020 arts and crafts show, according to Paula Scott, chamber CEO. Details are in the letter to chamber members below:

Dear BACC members,
We regret to announce that the May 9, 2020, Bluffton Arts & Crafts Festival has been cancelled due to the impact of COVID-19 restrictions.

With social distancing and stay at home measures in effect through April, we are unable to hold this event.

The day a U.S. president visited Ada

At the invitation of Ohio Northern University,William Howard Taft, 27th president of the United States, was invited to Ada, and accepted the invitation.

The visit was during his term as president from 1909 to 1913.

This photo post card from the Ada Public Library shows the horse-drawn carriage with the president and Ada dignitaries upon his arrival in Ada at the Pennsylvania Railroad depot.

The flip side of the post card shows a message from Ada to Mr. J.J. Motter of Xenia.

Dr. Anne Lippert was retired ONU vice president of academic affairs

And served as chair of the Foreign Language Department

Dr. Anne Lippert, 86, died on Saturday, April 4, 2020, at 2:10 a.m. at her residence in Ada, surrounded by her family.

She was born on Feb. 17, 1934 in Seattle, Washington, to the late Raymond and Eva (Doren) Lippert.  On May 7, 1977, Anne married Jeffrey M. Schulman and he survives in Ada.

BHS grad, Trevor Bassitt, DII national indoor men's track athlete of the year

At Bluffton HS he was NWC track athlete of the year and was state meet champ

Bluffton High School track and field standout Trevor Bassitt now of Ashland University was named the National Men’s Track Athlete of the Year for the 2020 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field season by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

This is the second time in the past three years and the fourth time overall that an athlete from Ashland has earned this honor (Myles Pringle, 2018; Drew Windle, 2013-2014).

Help fill the Little Free Pantry

Use of The Little Free Pantry at Bluffton Presbyterian Church has increased dramatically since the pandemic

Use of The Little Free Pantry at Bluffton Presbyterian Church, on the sidewalk across from Family Dollar, has increased dramatically since the pandemic.  

The church invites the community to help keep it filled.

Consider donating peanut butter, juice boxes/pouches, canned pastas, canned
meats, bagged noodles, rice, beans, breakfast bars, cereals, powdered milk and bread.
