Ada funeral director, Bruce Neely, announces retirement

Owner of Hanson-Neely Funeral Home for nearly 46 years; retirement open house planned Dec. 27

FROM ADA ICON - Bruce Neely, funeral director and owner of Hanson-Neely Funeral Home of Ada and Alger, has announced his retirement after serving the Ada community for nearly 46 years.

A retirement community open house takes place at the funeral home, 311 E. Lima Ave., Ada, from 10 a.m. to noon on Friday, Dec. 27.

“Since serving area communities from January of 1974 it is with mixed emotions that I announce my retirement,” he said.

Slow traffic on US 30 near Van Wert for the weekend

Traffic will be stopped for 15-minute intervals while overhead work completed

Traffic on U.S. 30 will be temporarily stopped in both directions for short intervals on Saturday, Dec. 14 and Sunday, Dec. 15 for maintenance on overhead transmission lines, near Van Wert. 

Traffic a half-mile west of the Middle Point Wetzel Road interchange will be temporarily stopped for 15-minute intervals, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. to removal and replacement of overhead transmission lines. 

Traffic control will be provided by LS Equipment, Inc., Delphos. Work is being performed by American Electric Power Transmission (AEP), Columbus.

OSU game changes holiday tourney schedule

Games played Friday-Saturday, Dec. 27-28

 

With the release of the NCAA football playoff schedule, Ohio State Buckeyes will play at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 28. 

As a result, some time adjustments take place in the McDonald’s Boys’ holiday basketball tournament, according to Alex Hanna, BHS athletic director.This way OSU fans can attend the tournament and still watch the OSU game.

The Dec. 28 consolation game of the holiday tournament will move from 6 p.m. to 4:30 p.m, and the championship game will be played at approximately 6:15 p.m.

Elementary Christmas service project asks for small change

Here's an end-of-December update of events at the Bluffton elementary school:

ELEMENTARY CHRISTMAS SERVICE PROJECT: The project for Bluffton elementary staff and students is “Coins for Kids!”  A coin drive to help raise money to help some local families is underway with donation banks in the elementary lobby. Coins are collected until Dec. 17. 

ELEMENTARY MEMORY BOOKS: An elementary memory book for the 2019-2020 school year will be on sale in January until Feb. 14. Flyers will be sent home with each student.

12 games in three days Dec. 27-28-29

HS boys and university men's and women's basketball

Four boys' high school basketball teams, four university men's teams and four women's teams play in Bluffton in three tournaments involving 12 different games over a three-day period at the end of December.

McDonald's sponsors the three tournaments. The boys' games are in the Bluffton High School gym. The university games are in the Sommer Center.
