BHS grad Eli Leader recipient of "Impact Teacher Award"

Groundskeeper at Salt Brook School, New Jersey

Reprinted from TAPinto.net - You don’t have to be a teacher in order to positively impact students’ lives.

The New Providence, N.J., school board  presented its second Impact Teacher Award to Eli Leader, groundskeeper at Salt Brook School, on Dec. 13.

Leader, a Bluffton High School graduate, is son of Don and Ann Leader of Bluffton.

He was recognized for his role in addressing students concern over a missing tree and helping students to find a solution for their dilemma.

I lived in Lincoln Hall my first year as a freshman 1971 and as a senior in 1975. Even when it was known as a rather dirty, loud, study free dorm. It was always so centrally located on campus and was the closest dormitory to the gymnasiums.


Meet Danielle Novak, BHS December student of the month

She hopes to major in neuroscience or linguistics

Danielle Novak, a junior, is the Bluffton High School December student of the month.

She is a member of Art Club, Latin Club, Student Senate and is on the Academic Team. She received "Best in the Class" awards in English and Latin (two separate times), and also one in Science, History and Art. She has received a Gold Medal for the National Latin Exam three years in a row. Danielle is also a member of the BHS soccer team.


Mr. Ada Icon, Monty Siekerman, will retire Dec. 31

He served as Ada Icon editor since 2016

Monty Siekerman, editor of Ada Icon will retire on Dec. 31, according to Fred Steiner, Icon owner.

He has provided stories and photo for the Icon since 2015 and served as editor since December 2016.

Jack Jeffery, associate director for media relations at ONU, provided the the follow tribute to Monty:

Monty Siekerman has spent the last 50-plus years telling the stories of others in the community.


This concert is always a sell-out - part 2

PART 2 (click here for part 1 photos) - A highlight of the Christmas season in Bluffton is the all-elementary school afternoon concert.

Talk about a "sold out" gymnasium, this is it. Kindergarten through fifth grade musicians, under the direction of Alice Basinger, performed their tradition holiday concert selections plus new works.


Luke Denecker BHS student of the month

Luke Denecker is the Bluffton High School December student of the month.

He is the junior class vice president, is a member of the Student Senate, Latin Club and the National Honor Society. He is a member of the Allen Lima Leadership team and is in Ocean Focus. He attends St Mary's Catholic Church and is in its youth group, 

He has received multiple Student of the Year awards throughout high school including Science 9, Latin I, Geometry, Algebra II, World History, Health, and English 9 and 10.
