Roger Zeits, Carrick Lancaster receive Eagle Scout awards

Two local Boy Scouts -- Roger Zeits and Carrick Lancaster -- were honored for achieving the Eagle Rank at an Eagle Court of Honor August 17 at First United Methodist Church.  Both scouts joined Bluffton Boy Scout Troop 256 in May 2009 and have been active members since.

Roger is a senior at Bluffton High School and is a member of the soccer and
tennis teams.  Roger attends First United Methodist Church in Bluffton.  He
is the son of Clair and Victoria Zeits.

Maple Crest elders entertained by bagpipe music

Bluffton's Maple Crest senior living community kicked off National Assisted Living Week week with a performance of bagpipes played by Stephan R. Johnson of Ada. The week was Sept. 7-13 and the week's theme was "the magic of music!"

Johnson was formally dressed in his Irish kilt (the Irish wear solid colored kilts) with every detail in place from the knife in his sock to the shoes with no tongue (so muddy water can drain out).

Maple Crest "nursery" gives birth and the baby's probably on the way to Mexico

“Our baby has arrived,” Joanne Niswander announced with pride and joy!

Icon viewers shouldn’t be confused at all, because every year Maple Crest elder, Joanne Niswander, sets up a Monarch butterfly “nursery” complete with milk weed from her own garden for the little caterpillars to feed upon.

Hancock County Junior Fair loaded with Cory-Rawson royalty

This year's Hancock County Junior Fair had a large contingency of Cory-Rawson students in royalty roles as many CRHS  students had the honor of being selected to represent the Junior Fair and various departments.  

Two Cory-Rawson 2014 graduates Aubry von Stein and Brent Warren were named Junior Fair Princess and King.

This year's Bluffton vs. Pandora rivalry ends in a tie

The 16th annual Riley Creek Rivalry between the Pandora and Bluffton Shuffleboard players was held on Saturday, Sept. 6, at the Bluffton courts.  

For the first time in the history of the friendly competition, the score ended in a tie. In the first round of matches Bluffton opened with an eight to four lead, but Pandora quickly caught up and after four rounds the final score was tied 24 to 24. 

A total of 24 shufflers competed.  Since its beginning in 1999, Bluffton holds an eight to seven lead in the rivalry.
