Council get ready for spring on Monday - sidewalks and lots more

Bluffton council will hear recommendations from its street, alleys, lights and sidewalk committee on Monday.

Those committees met on Feb. 26 and the following information from that meeting is in the Monday council packet at the bottom of this story.

Here’s a summary as it affects sidewalks:
Inspection reports were filled out on 276 sidewalks on the west side of town. That compares to 202 reports on the east side.

Garmatter Street water main project completed

The Garmatter Street water main project is now completed. Jamie Mehaffie, Bluffton village administrator, reported that in addition, it is now tied into the water line at Riley Street.

“When the weather warms up a little bit Beaverdam Contracting will run a pressure test on the line, then complete the disinfection and testing process,” said Mehaffie.

Once that is completed and passes its test the line will be connected to the new main.

Bluffton moves to all-day kindergarten next school year; two-year, half-day program will continue

Next school year Bluffton Exempted Village Schools will implement all-day kindergarten in tandem with the existing two-year, half-day program.

During the Jan. 15 Bluffton school board meeting all-day kindergarten proposal passed by a 3-2 vote. Voting in favor of the plan were Ken Lugibihl, Rene Smith and Jeremy Scoles. Voting against the plan were Wes Klinger and Brad Fruchey.

Greg Denecker, Bluffton superintendent explained to the Icon, the reasoning for the change, saying that there are many reasons for moving to an all-day format for our students.

Discussion of the abandoned gas station and restaurant on State Route 103 were among discussion points at the Jan. 15 Bluffton Airport Advisory Committee meeting.

School board reorganizational meeting Thursday evening

Bluffton school board holds is reorganization meeting at 7:30 p.m.,Thursday, Jan. 15, in the elementary media center.

Several annual assignments are on the agenda for approval. Those include:

• selection of board president and vice president
•  monthly meetings at 7:30 p.m. on the following dates in the elementary media center:

School board meets Jan. 15

The Bluffton school board has rescheduled its January meeting. The new date is 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 15, in the Elementary media center.
