Bluffton council holds March 7 "contracts" meeting

The Village of Bluffton will hold a special council meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 7, for the purpose of contracts, according to Nancy Kindle, village fiscal officer.

The meeting is in the town hall.

Jefferson Street bridge on ODOT's replacement list in 2019

Sidewalk on both sides of the bridge also involved

Bluffton's Jefferson Street bridge in on the Ohio Department of Transportation’s replacement list for 2019, according to the village.

According to Monday’s council packet ODOT has also reviewed the request for an additional sidewalk and has agreed to fund a six-foot sidewalk on both sides of the bridge, in addition to an aesthetic improvement that the village would fund.

The current bridge lacks a sidewalk on either side. This is an ODOT project becasue Jefferson Street is also State Route 103. The bridge will have a Texas classic bridge design.

Residents ask: "Why did the village get rid of its administrator?"

During audience participation segment of Feb. 13 council meeting

Two Bluffton residents received no answer to their question, “Why did the village get rid of its administrator?”

The question was posed to Mayor Judy Augsburger during the Feb. 13 Bluffton council meeting. It concerned the Jan. 23 council termination of Jamie Mehaffie as village administrator. He held the position for 13 years.

During the audience participation segment of the meeting Joe Schorer and Mitch Giesige each raised the question to the mayor.

Village may purchase new dump truck

Several additional purchase items on Monday's agenda

Bluffton council will consider approve several purchase requests on Monday.

The largest purchase is for a new dump truck. A quote through the state bidding system is $77,803. The village had budgeted $65,000 and eliminated several options, bringing the revised quote to $67,069.

Other purchase requests include:
• Two mowers - $14,354 quote

• Adobe Pro Software - $3,920 quote for 10 users; village asked for quote for three users, which is not yet received (estimate is $1,200)

School board looks to purchase new school bus

Okays $199,500 for materials, installation of new gym bleachers

Bluffton school board initiated the bid process for an 84-passenger transit school bus during its Feb. 8 board meeting. The board will open bids for the bus at 9 a.m., Wednesday, March 8, in the superintendent’s office.

The board also accepted a contract totally $199,500 for materials and installation of bleachers in the high school gym. The contract is with Hussey Seating Co., and Farnham Equipment Co.

The current bleachers are the original bleachers and are nearly 30 years old. The project could begin as soon as April and should be completed later in the spring.

Bluffton school board to consider re-hire of Tim Closson after his spring retirement

Closson is elementary principal; special meeting April 17

NOTE: Bluffton school board moved this month’s meeting from Feb. 20 to 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 8.

Bluffton school board is notifying the public through a resolution that Tim Closson, elementary principal, will retire and seek re-employment in the same position this spring.
