2nd quarter Bluffton building permits reached over $1 million

Et Cetera Shop's $650,000 remodeling was the largest project

Village of Bluffton building permits totaled over $1 million in the second quarter of 2019, according to the village office.

Twenty-five permits were issued totaling $1,083,544 in construction. The largest was Et Cetera Shop’s remodeling of the former glove factory, which totaled $650,000.

Permits in the second quarter, from April 1 through June 30, were $870,726 higher than the 19 permits issued in the second quarter of 2018.

WOAL swim champs in Bluffton July 12-13

More than 500 swimmers and their families will descend on Bluffton

“We are expecting close to 3,000 people in Bluffton for the two-day event,” said Jennie Wilson, manager of the Bluffton pool and president of the Bluffton Sardines swim club.

More than 500 swimmers and their families will descend on Bluffton July 12-13, 2019 for the annual Western Ohio Aquatics League (WOAL) swim champs. The WOAL is for swimmers aged 4-18 who are members of one of the league’s teams.

I-75 one lane between Stewart and Napoleon roads beginning Monday

Interstate 75 between the Stewart Road overpass and Napoleon Road, between the city of Lima and the village of Beaverdam, will be restricted to one lane in both directions beginning Monday, July 8, for a pavement resurfacing project.

The project also includes repairs on the ramps at the Bluelick Road interchange and on the bridges over Sugar Creek. Lane restrictions will be in place each week from Monday morning to Friday afternoon.

Apollo Career Center announces staff changes

Apollo Career Center will begin the 2019-20 school year with new leadership in key positions. 

Tasha Sheipline, adult education director, has been selected as the high school director, over-seeing instructional and supervisory staff, curriculum, discipline, and the entire high school experience for students while they attend Apollo.

Ride to Remember coming July 20

5th annual ride will attract over 200 bicyclists

The Bluffton Lions Foundation will host the Fifth Annual Ride to Remember on Saturday, July 20. Several routes will be offered, ranging in distance from the 2-mile Town Loop to the 112-mile Triplett Challenge.  Proceeds from the ride will benefit the Bluffton Pathways Project.

“Last year, we drew more than 200 riders,” said Dick Ramseyer, chair of the event.  “We hope to add even more riders this year and are offering a lot of perks to attract them.”
