Pirate netters lead opener before rain

Bluffton High School led Celina 2-0 in the girls tennis season opener Monday evening at the Ohio Northern University courts when rain ended play. The Pirate girls were on the verge of victory when play had to be stopped with three matches tied in the third set.

Pirate linksters split NWC bout

The Bluffton High School golf squad split a three-team Northwest Conference match Monday at the Bluffton Golf Course.

Leipsic captured first with 172 strokes, followed closely by Bluffton (176); Ada was a distant third (264).

BHS golf team opens season with home invitational

On August 5, the Bluffton High School golf team hosted five other schools for the Bluffton Pirate Invitational Tournament at Bluffton Golf Club. Bluffton finished third in the event.

Bowling league meetings scheduled at Southgate Lanes

Southgate Lanes has announced that fall league meetings are scheduled, which will include:

  • Start dates
  • USBC rules

There are two team openings in the Stratton Auto Women's league.

All other leagues are full with a waiting list.

Southgate Lanes notes, "PLEASE let us know if there is a chance your team will not be participating with us this year so we can keep all the leagues full!"

Free practice will be available for all league members after the meetings are completed.

Bill Russell: most valuable player ever

Celtic legend Bill Russell is arguably the most valuable player ever in NBA history, and perhaps even in all of team sports.

He died Sunday at age 88 following the deaths of Celtic legend teammates Tom Heinsohn, John Havlicek and Sam Jones in recent years. Only the almost 94 year old Bob Cousy has outlived them all.
