BLUFFTON - Homestanding Bluffton built a double-digit halftime lead and went on to post a 62-52 win over Riverdale in a non-conference boys basketball contest Saturday night.
Four Pirates scored in double figures to spearhead a balanced offensive effort.
The Pirates led 19-13 after the first period as four players tallied at least four points each. Bluffton extended the advantage to 38-27 at intermission.
The foes played to an almost even 25-24 second-half score.

BLUFFTON - The Bluffton boys basketball team was seeded 11th out of 13 teams at the Lima Senior Div. III sectional/district drawings held Sunday.
The Pirate boys (7-11) will host 13th-seeded Defiance Tinora (4-10) Wednesday, February 24 in a sectional semifinal. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
The winner will visit top-seeded Ottawa-Glandorf (13-3) Friday, Feb. 26 at 7 p.m. in the second round. The host Titans beat the Pirates 63-50 January 2 in a game that was closer than the final score indicates.

BLUFFTON - Homestanding Bluffton held local rival Allen East to 15 second-half points to win their annual Northwest Conference girls basketball battle 50-37 Thursday evening.
The Lady Pirates snapped a three-game losing streak with the victory. They outscored the Mustang girls 26-15 after intermission to prevail by 13 points.
The game was tied 10-10 after a tight first quarter of play. Bluffton inched into a 24-22 lead by halftime, then pulled ahead by eight with a 10-4 third stanza.

Bluffton High School will host this year’s Northwest Conference meet on Friday.
Eight schools will bring wrestlers and there will be junior high and high school competitions.
Jeff Kleman, Bluffton coach, told the Icon that the junior high wrestlers will compete in the old BHS gym. The high school competition takes place in the new gym.
“Bluffton will have seven or eight wrestlers competing,” said Kleman. He expects Allen East and Columbus Grove be in a competitive spot for the NWC trophy this year.
