Here's a photograph from the 1926 Bluffton College Ista. Cheering for the Beavers during the 1925-26 school year were, from left, Edna Van der Smissen, Ralph Page (cheermaster) and Lloyd Beechy.

Beechy's home town was Sugarcreek and Page's was Goshen. The hometown of Edna Van der Smissen was not listed.

‘Nonviolent God’ is focus of campus events on Feb. 11

Dr. J. Denny Weaver, professor emeritus of religion at Bluffton University, will address his 2013 book, “The Nonviolent God,” in two settings Tuesday, Feb. 11, on the Bluffton campus.

“Race, Ethnicity and the Nonviolent God” is Weaver’s title for a Bluffton forum at 11 a.m. in Founders Hall. He will then present a program on his book in the Musselman Library Reading Room, beginning with a reception at 3:45 p.m. Both events are free and open to the public.

Looks like fun: Quarter auction benefits food pantry on Feb. 9

A quarter auction fundraiser to benefit the Bluffton food pantry will take place in the Bluffton Middle School on Sunday, Feb. 9. Doors open at 4 p.m. and the event beings at 5 p.m., according to persons sponsoring the event.

The event enables persons to support the food pantry and have a fun evening and win some prizes donated by local vendors and businesses.

A $5 entry fee will get those who attend one paddle. Extra paddles are available for $2 or donation of a food item. There will also be a 50/50 and food available.
