Cross country team focuses on Tuesday Allen County meet

Runners 12th in 23-team Kalida meet

KALIDA - The Bluffton boys cross country team ran at the Wildcat Invitational meet in Kalida Saturday.

The Pirate boys finished 12th in the 23-team meet. Ottawa-Glandorf (53 points) easily out-distanced Elyria Catholic (104) for the team title. St. Marys finished third with 127 points.

Bluffton tallied 317 points.

Erik Nygaard finished 18th in the field of 216 runners with a time of 17:51.4 to post the top Pirate showing.

BLUFFTON - The Bluffton football team could not contain the Knight run game and lost 41-21 to visiting Crestview in a Northwest Conference battle Friday night at Harmon Field.

The defeat ended a two-game Pirate win streak and dropped their record to 3-2 overall at the halfway point of the regular season. Bluffton also fell to 1-1 in the NWC.

The Knights improved to 3-2 and 2-0 in league play with their third consecutive victory.

Samuel Smith 1931 - 2019

Samuel L. Smith, 88, died Sept. 29, 2019, at the Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton.  Sam was born Aug. 30, 1931, in Toledo to the late Samuel and Mildred (Gillespie) Smith.  He married Mary Rosella (Shulaw) Smith who survives in Bluffton.

Sam graduated from McComb High School and served for two years in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.  He retired after 20 years as a trooper with the Ohio State Highway Patrol.  Sam later worked and retired from General Dynamic where he worked in security.

Mom2Mom fall sale Saturday

At Ebenezer Mennonite Church, collecting non-perishables for food pantry

There's a Mom2Mom sale Saturday, Oct. 5, from 9 to noon at Ebenezer Mennonite Church gym, 8905 Columbus Grove Road.

At Mom2Mom sales, you'll find gently used kids clothes, covering all ages, plus maternity wear, accessories, and toys, etc. This sale is sponsored by the local MOPS (Mothers of Pre-Schoolers) group, which meets at Ebenezer.

There is no admission free. Instead, MOPS are collecting non-perishable food/ canned goods for the Bluffton Food Pantry.  MOPS also offers a bake sale, by donation, with all proceeds going towards their program.
