Toledo Zoo present Endangered Species talk at library tomorrow

Bluffton Public Library hosts the Toledo Zoo staff talk "Endangered Species" on Friday, June 7 at 1 p.m. in the lower level meeting room. 

Participants will learn about endangered species, meet zoo staff and live chat with animals at the Toledo Zoo. 

This program is for children, kindergarten through 5th grade. Registration is required. 

Presenting Bluffton NWC scholar athletes

Letter winners with grade point averages of 3.0 and higher

Several Bluffton High School student athletes were named Northwest Conference Scholar Athletes this spring.

Eligibility requires student to letter in a sport. The gold level is for students with grade point average from 3.5 to 4.0 during the season. The silver level is for students with grade point averages of 3.0 to 3.49 during the season.

First United Methodists plan adult mission trip

An adult summer mission trip to New Bern, N.C. is being organized by the First United Methodist Church Mission and Outreach Team for the week of July 7-13. 

The trip will involve repair and restoration of homes damaged by Hurricane Florence that devastated the community in September 2018. The mission organization is Samaritan's Purse who oversees and coordinates the various building projects.

Beaverdam Bunch met this week

The Beaverdam Bunch held a 4-H meeting this past Monday, June 3. The group discussed old business. Fair entries are due Monday, July 1. The group needs to start thinking about ideas for our booth.

Congratulations to Mallory Hardesty and Kaitlin Thurmond for staying with us until they graduated this year.

Swiss homestead open each Saturday this summer

Your opportunity to step into Bluffton and Pandora's past; open 1-5 p.m.

Summer open houses at Schumacher Homestead began last Saturday.

“Are you a ghost?” a little girl once asked Schumacher Homestead volunteer Susie Gratz, who was dressed in the somber black cap, long full dress, and apron worn by women in the Bluffton-Pandora area Swiss Settlement in the mid 1800s.

Gratz assured the youngster that she was real and alive, and could show her how families in the area lived more than 150 years ago.

Here’s prizes in Relay for Hope raffle

Bluffton Area Relay for Hope Trinity Lutheran Church team will host a raffle, as part of the 5K Glow Run on Friday, June 21.

Winners receive: 

  • 1st place: $100 A to Z Meat Certificate and Electric Indoor/Patio grill
  • 2nd place: $50 Community Market food cards and an Air Fryer

Prizes donated by A to Z Meats, Community Market, Wal-Mart, and Thrivent Financial. 

Drawing will be held at 9:30 p.m. on Friday, June 21 at the BFR. Winner need not be present to win. 

Tickets $2 each or 3 for $5.
