Peanut brittle season underway

November is a busy month for the Bluffton Senior Citizens Center. Here is a list of several of the events:

o The Center will offer a free blood pressure clinic from 10 a.m. to noon, Wednesday, Nov. 4. A nurse from AmeriCare will assist in the clinic.

o At 6 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 3, is the first Tuesday Night Dance of the winter. Please note the time change: from 6 to 8 p.m. doors open at 5:30 p.m.

Antique show and tell Nov. 9 at Senior Center

Ann Stratton will provide an antique show and tell program during the November Bluffton Senior Citizens dinner meeting. Persons interested in having antiques appraised should sign-up at the Center prior to the dinner.

The event is at 6 p.m., Monday, Nov. 9, at the Senior Citizens Center on North Main Street. Alice Wingate, who will be 90 in November, will receive a life membership during the meeting.

The party invitation read: Wear a mask. Over 75 area youngsters attended BFR's Oct. 25 Halloween party. Custume winner follow (not standing in order):

o 0-3 years Chloe Kosch (Lima/Elida) black/purple witch
o 4-6 years Olivia Smallcomb (Bluffton) green/pink fairy
o 7-10 years Julia Smallcomb (Bluffton) puppy

Lawrence Matthews named Mennonite Mutual Aid Society manager

Lawrence Matthews

Lawrence Matthews was recently named manager of Mennonite Mutual Aid Society, according to Jane Weaver, MMAS board chairperson. In this role, Matthews will manage the day-to-day operations of the Bluffton-based insurance company. Paul King continues as president of the company.

Weaver said that the board is pleased to make the announcement. Matthews brings 30 years of administrative experience to the job. He joined the company as an agent in March and he will continue to serve clients in that role. The decision to name Matthews as manager is based on the company's desire to grow.

Best children's books presentation Nov.12

Children's literature specialist presents "best books" at Bluffton University

Floyd C. Dickman, a children's literature specialist, will present "Outstanding Picture Books of 2009" at 2:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 12, in the Kreider Room in Marbeck Center.

Christian Peacemaker Team visits university

As part of Bluffton University's Pathways scholars-in-residence program, three members of Christian Peacemaker Teams (CPT) will be on campus Nov. 10-12. The three members include Sylvia Morrison, Sandra Milena Rincon and Tarek Abuata. During their visit, they will be visiting students and classes, as well as speaking during forum on Tuesday, Nov. 10, at 11 a.m.
