Bluffton voters lined the hallway of the Bluffton elementary school when polls opened at 6:30 a.m. There was a 10-minute wait and eventually the stream slowed. This year in addition to a photo ID, voter's temperatures are taken before entering to vote. Poll worker Deb Beer checks the temperature of the next-in-line voter.

Downtown Bluffton kicks off the holiday season

Friday-Saturday retail open house, free giveaways, discounts and special offers

It’s a big downtown Bluffton shopping weekend.

Gift certificate drawings, merchandise discounts and free gifts are part of the activities Friday and Saturday, Nov. 6-7, in the annual Downtown Bluffton Christmas Open House.

Ten businesses are part of a mailing shopper – the shopper is attached at the bottom of this story. Each of those businesses has special discounts.

Mary Louise Huffer was a Gomer High School graduate

Mary Louise Huffer, 98, died Nov. 2, 2020, at Willow Ridge - Frieda House in Bluffton. Mary Louise was born Jan. 30, 1922, in Gomer to the late Emerson and Martha Ann (Griffith) Clevenger. On Oct. 14, 1942, she married Donald "Burt" Huffer who preceded her in death on Dec. 15, 1989. 

Mary Louise graduated from Gomer High School and attended Northwestern Business College in Lima. She had worked at the Lima Tank Depot during World War II and later as the head cook at Gomer Schools for 18 years. Mary Louise attended the Lima Community Church of the Nazarene.

Sophomore Erik Nygaard qualifies for DIII state cross country meet

BHS team 13th at regional

TIFFIN - The Bluffton boys cross country team finished 13th at the unseasonably cold Div. III regional race Saturday morning in Tiffin's Hedges Boyer Park.

Bluffton sophomore ace Erik Nygaard finished 25th in the large field of 189 runners to post the top Pirate showing with a time of 17:03.7.

Jonna Lee Hartman was a 1951 Cory-Rawson HS graduate

Jonna Lee Hartman, 86 of Arlington and formerly of rural Rawson died on Monday, Nov. 2, 2020.

She was born on Dec. 28, 1933, to the late John J. and Helen A. (Emans) Beach. Jonna married Clair E. Hartman on May 26, 1957, and he preceded her in death on Aug. 28, 2008.

Surviving Jonna are her children; Janet (Don) Dukes, Joyce (Tim-deceased) Falk, Mark (Amy) Hartman, Michael Hartman and Matthew (Nikki) Hartman.
