E-payments topic of BCE brown bag discussion Thursday

The Bluffton Center for Entrepreneurs (BCE) is holding a Brown Bag Discussion on taking and making electronic payments.

Join a casual conversation with Lauren Beasley and Seth Combs of Citizens National Bank at noon on Thursday, Feb. 27, on the third floor of Bluffton town hall, 154 N. Main St.

"Consumers expect the convenience of multiple payment options," saidBCE Executive Director Paula Scott.

Lady Pirates knocked out by Arlington in sectionals

Senior post Libby Schaadt led the Pirates with 19 points and a career-high 20 rebounds in her last game.

BLUFFTON - Second seed Arlington seized control with a 15-4 second quarter and went on to defeat Bluffton 50-41 in girls Div. IV sectional final action Saturday night at Bluffton University.

The loss ended the Lady Pirate season with a 14-9 overall record, while Arlington improved to 18-5 with the win.

89 tennis season ago at BHS

Here's the Bluffton High School boys' tennis team from 89 tennis seasons ago, in 1931.

From left, Charles Steiner, Konstantine Epp, Gordon Alderfer, Sidney Stettler, coach, Richard Ludwig, Tom Perry and Robert Balmer. Also on the team were John Romey, Paul Hirschler and George Musselman.

According to the BHS yearbook the team of Steiner and Epp entered district competition at Toledo Waite. The yearbook went to press before the results were known.

Season results included Bluffton defeating Findlay twice, and Bowling Green and Wapakoneta once.

"Ashes to Go" launches Bluffton's Lent observance

Ash Wednesday services part of a growing tradition in local congregations

On the morning of Ash Wednesday, Feb. 26, a group of Bluffton area pastors will offer “Ashes to Go,” a new approach to a centuries-old Christian tradition. 

Ashes to Go is offered from  7 to 9 a.m. downtown Bluffton at the corner of Main and Cherry streets. 

Pedestrians, as well as drivers and passengers of vehicles who pull over, are invited to participate.

Chili served for over 180 soup tasters

Cook off raises $1,380 for Bluffton Community Assistance Program's food pantry

Another successful community chili cook off was held on Feb. 18  

With the help of eight area churches and 10 chili cooks, the event raised $1,380 for the Bluffton Community Assistance Program’s food pantry.

Chili recipes were provided by Cathy Carroll, representing the Presbyterian church; John Hochstetler Presbyterian church; Missy Pilash, Bluffton Baptist; Jesse Owsley, Emmanuel UCC; Mike Edmiston, First Mennonite; Tom Downey, St. Mary’s Catholic; Mennonite Home Communities of Ohio, Julie Yoder, Zac Kohli and J.W. Shannon, Bluffton Community Assistance Program.
