Our Swiss connection - part 3

Christian and Kristina Bucher

Christian Bucher was born July 3, 1778, in Langnau Emmental, Canton Bern, Switzerland.

He was the son of Friedrick and Elizabeth (Luti) Bucher who remained in Switzerland. His wife, Kristina Brechbuhl, was born Feb. 8, 1789, in Ruderswil, Canton Bern, Switzerland. His father was Urich and we do not have information on his mother.

Tommy Cross funeral arrangements pending

Tommy D. Cross, 66, of Beaverdam died Nov. 25, 2020, at Lima Memorial Health System.  Services will begin at noon Monday, Nov. 30, at Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services, Bluffton. 

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Arrangements are pending at Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services, Bluffton.

Icon Q and A with hospital officials concerning recent covid-19 developments

Earlier today The Icon talked with Scott Malaney, president and CEO ,and Dr. William Kose, vice president of special projects, Blanchard Valley Health System, to clarify some covid-19 updates concerning BVHS. This is a follow-up to the Nov. 16 interview headlined: "Covid-19 is no hoax."

The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) continues to showcase members of the Heartland family with the video series Heartland Kids Corner, featuring student athletes interviewed by the children of their coaches.

Episode eight features the Bluffton University volleyball team with head coach Steve Yarnell’s son Brady behind the mic.

Bill Hoffer was a member of the Bluffton HS class of 1968

 William J. “Bill” Hoffer, 70, died on Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2020, at 12:45 p.m. at his residence in Ada, surrounded by his family.

He was born on March 13, 1950 in Bluffton to the late Roy and Mary (Dunbar) Hoffer, Jr.  On Feb. 2, 1979, Bill married Diana M. Newland and she survives in Ada.

Bill worked as a custodian at Ohio Northern University, Ada. He was a member of the Bluffton High School class of 1968.

Apparently this is the Bluffton turkey to receive a pardon for Thanksgiving. You'll find it in The Dough Hook window, 117 N. Main St., Watch the Icon all holiday season long as we feature many downtown store windows decorated for the season.
