$188,361 street maintenance program on Monday's council agenda

Bluffton council will act on a proposed 2016 street maintenance paving schedule during Monday's meeting.

Heres the street and alley committee 2016 recommendation with estimated costs:
• Kibler Street - $39,697
• Garmatter Street - $57,525
• Harmon Road - Bentley to Garau - $27,781
• Church Street - Main to Jackson - $15,575
• Jackson Street - Church to Elm - $23,970
• Ethan Circle - $16,813
• Striping - $7,000

Rural Bluffton family receiving Red Cross assistance after Friday house fire

Volunteers with the American Red Cross of Hancock County responded to a fire on County Road 51 in Bluffton Friday night.  
 
Red Cross volunteers Jim Beach and Karl Gingrich provided the family of four with temporary shelter and assistance for immediate needs such as food and clothing.

Jan Basinger was a Lima South High School graduate

Jan E. Basinger, 78, of Pandora died 10:22 p.m., March 17, 2016, at her daughter’s residence.  Jan was born June 5, 1937, in Bluffton to the late Sidney and Velma Bucher Herr.  On Dec. 18, 1960, she married Roger Basinger who preceded her in death on April 27, 2010.

Jan worked at Sager's Appliance, Ottawa, She was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Chapter #52 and a graduate of Lima South High School.  She was involved in community service and made lap throws for all Hilty Home residents.

First-time egg hunter

Three-year-old Lyla Heinze shows the Easter eggs she gathers at the Mennonite Home-McDonald's Easter egg hunt on Saturday morning. She's the daughter of Steven and Traci Heinze. This was her first-ever Easter egg hunt. This year 3,000 eggs were picked up in 90 seconds. The hunt took place in the back yard of the MMH. The eggs were filled with jelly beans yesterday by residents of the Home.
