UPDATED 9:20 A.M. with cancellation of May 27 public hearing and meeting packet.

The Village of Bluffton Council held a regular meeting on May 12 at Bluffton Town Hall with all council members present.

The meeting included mention of a May 27 public hearing regarding an artificial turf practice field proposed by the Bluffton Schools for a space across and closing Vine St. at Lawn. (This meeting has since been cancelled.) Council heard reports on EMS equipment needs and updates to both the EMS and Fire stations.

Safety Services committee member Phill Talavinia recommended and council approved increased costs for powered ambulance cots and a new type of laryngeal scope.

Citizens National Bank of Bluffton presented a ceremonial check for $50K to the Bluffton Soccer Club on Monday, May 12 in support Legacy Park soccer fields. U8-U12 soccer players--and their chauffeurs--can look forward to a single practice and game facility on Snyder Rd. MORE

In 1578, Dr. Guillaume de Baillou of France recorded the first known outbreak of whooping cough in Paris. The cough has a high-pitched whoop sound lending itself to the common name of whooping cough. The medical term for whooping cough is pertussis. Due to the long duration of the cough from 6-10 weeks or longer, whooping cough has also been referred to as the 100-day cough.

Sunday 5/18 - Seniors Paint the Street, 7:00-9:00 p.m.

Thursday 5/22 - Baccalaureate Service - College Ave outside the high school - 7-8:00 p.m.

Saturday 5/24 - Commencement Ceremonies, 7:00 p.m. (doors open at 5:30 p.m.)

The Pirate Boys Tennis team will play in the DII Sectional Tournament on Thursday, May 15 at 9:00 a.m. at UNOH.

Tickets may be purchased in advance at: www.ohsaa.org/tickets 

Cost is $5 for students (K-12) and $8 for adults.

Cash tickets will also be available for purchase at the gate.

BLUFFTON - The streaking Bluffton High School boys tennis team swept visiting Western Buckeye League foe Defiance 5-0 on Monday, May 12.

The Pirates improved to 14-3 with the victory. Bluffton won all 10 sets, including all three singles matches without dropping a single game.

Struggling Defiance fell to 1-7 with the loss.

Pirate senior Branson Hilty triumphed at first singles 6-0, 6-0.  

Bluffton senior Jack Brauen also won with a double bagel at second singles 6-0, 6-0.
