Jonathan Moyer, recipient of Bluffton University's 2011 Outstanding Young Alumni Award, will discuss "What Will Keep Future Presidents up at Night" at 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30, in Stutzman Lecture Hall in Bluffton's Centennial Hall. The colloquium is free and open to the public.

Nature can become nasty. Just as Joel Groman.

He sent The Icon this praying mantis suppertime photo. Brenda, Joel's mother, took the photo. The locust was still buzzing when the photo was snapped. Yikes!

Now, to some friendly nature scenes.

Dawn King shared these three photos with The Icon, which she took recently. They show a butterfly that was actually tagged. We've read about them, but this is the first one we've ever seen. Also is a very close-up shot of a bee at work, plus some Buckeye butterflies.

Bluffton celebrates the arrival of fall at its eighth annual Fall Festival, Saturday, Sept. 24.

The festival includes activities at seven different locations. Here's information about the day:

Here's an aerial view of Bluffton taken by Leland Gerber. Our guess is 1974 for this photo. We base this on the existence of Riley View Apartments, which were constructed that year. Notice that there is no Vance Street building yet (it was built in 1986);

Check out several landmarks:

1 - 1911 Bluffton High School

2 - Urich's IGA (now Community Market)

3 - Look closely at Citizens National Bank - what do you see?

4 - Look at the houses where the middle school is today

This one is a cinch. The Icon spotted this at Jerry and Nancy Suter's earlier this summer. It's time for the Corn Maze.

This is a great weekend to book it to the Bluffton Public Library.

The Friends of the Bluffton Public Library will holds its fall book sale from Friday until Tuesday, Sept. 27.

Book sale hours for the public are Sept. 23 through Sept. 26 during regular library hours and Sept. 27 from 9:30 a.m. - 4 p.m.

The library and Friends group will also be offering additional activities on Saturday, Sept. 24, in conjunction with the community's Fall Festival.

The Bluffton Center for Entrepreneurs is seeking contributions for its third annual art auction on Saturday, Nov. 12. The preview, dinner and auction is the business incubator's single most important fundraiser and will be attended by some 200 guests.

The event as a fun and rewarding experience for artists. The auction's

Huffman of Lima, and Gregg Luginbuhl of Bluffton.
