The first Be A Beaver Triathlon is set for Saturday, May 31, in Bluffton.
Beginning at 8 a.m. at the Bluffton Community Swimming Pool, the event will include a 400-meter pool swim, a 20-kilometer bike on nearby country roads and a 5K run through village streets and the Bluffton University Nature Preserve.
Proceeds will help the university’s cross country and track and field teams cover their costs to attend out-of-state invitational meets.
No more bills using the familiar yellow card system for Bluffton utility users.
Nancy Kindle, Bluffton village fiscal officer, informed the Icon that the village is switching utility bill formats.

“It was our intention to switch with the current bill, however, with the water damage at town hall, the printer was ruined and we were not able to print the bills,” she said.

I am contributing a photo that was taken in October 1950. The location is the Richland Grange which was destroyed on April 11, 1965, during the Palm Sunday tornado. This was an Alpha Gamma event and "come as you are" was not an option.
The SHANNON Service Club of Bluffton presented its 2014 Annual “Service to Humanity” Scholarship Awards at the Bluffton High School 34th Annual Awards Program on May 14. This year this organization was again able to give two $750 scholarships.
With the May 23 running of the 800m, Bluffton High School graduate Hannah Chappell-Dick became Eastern Mennonite University's first participant at a national track meet since 2010. Despite not qualifying for the finals in the event, she caps a very successful sophomore season with the race.

The pool will be open Saturday and Sunday, May 31, and June 1, from 1 to 6 p.m. The pool will not be open Monday, June 2, since Bluffton schools are still in session. On Wednesday, June 3, the pool opens for the rest of the summer.
Hours
Monday-Friday, 1 to 8 p.m.
Saturday-Sunday, 1 to 6 p.m.
Rest breaks are every hour for 15 minutes. No one under 18 is permitted to swim during rest breaks.
